Swift Current Energy is a leading renewable energy project developer, owner and operator (“Swift Current” or the “Company”) with over 6,000 MW of wind, solar and energy storage projects across the U.S. The Company is currently seeking an experienced Project Controller to work closely with our Accounting & Financial Reporting team and support project level controls and processes, compliance, forecasting and reporting; exact title will be commensurate with experience. The Company has primary offices in Boston and Houston; this role may be based in either location, with a strong preference for the Houston area.

Job Scope:

The primary responsibilities of the Project Controller include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Liaise between the Asset Management group and Accounting teams on given project assignments.
  • Prepare monthly accounting closing entries (full cycle accounting close) on allocated projects.
  • Identify improvements in processes where the Accounting group interacts with other Swift Current departments.
  • Maintain a strong emphasis on all aspects of ASC 842, including contract review and documentation, lease schedule creation and maintenance, preparation of all monthly journal entries and associated reporting.
  • Perform derivative accounting and associated reporting related to project level debt and/or offtake agreements.
  • Communicate the accounting implications of transactions to internal project stakeholders at all levels.
  • Support the investment/divestment processes by providing timely and accurate information for decision making and calculation of impacts on financial statements, cash flow implications, and forecasting asset performance.
  • Perform monthly account and budget to actual analysis.
  • Assist in preparation of annual operating budgets and forecasts.
  • Review contracts and provide compliance support to Construction and Asset Management teams; manage debt compliance requirements and prepare required debt certificates and disbursement requests.
  • Participate in managing the external and internal audit requirements of the project.
  • Assist in technical accounting research and consult with management and the external auditors to ensure proper accounting treatment is applied for transactions, as well as for the implementation of new standards.
  • Monitor contractual relationships and interface with stakeholders (including banks and other financing mechanisms) for compliance.
  • Prepare ad hoc quantitative analyses and support systems implementations and data integrity.
  • Ad hoc tasks as required from time to time


The expected travel for this position is 15%. Job responsibilities may evolve based on Company needs and individual career growth. This role reports to the Chief of Asset Management with a dotted line to the company Controller.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
  • 5+ years proven experience in similar positions in the industry, or from public accounting with experience relevant to job requirements.
  • Renewable energy project accounting and analysis experience
  • Prior experience with ASC 606 and ASC 842
  • Experience with project finance, complex loan structures, multiple entities, tax equity and construction accounting a plus
  • Sound understanding of the impacts in Financial Statements generated by Business decisions
  • Understanding of US GAAP and/or IFRS.
  • Fluidity in MS Office suite, with high proficiency in Excel
  • Current authorization to live and work in the U.S.


Preference may be given to candidates with the following qualification:

  • Strong understanding of partnership accounting
  • Power generation and power commercialization sector experience with a focus on renewable energy generation
  • CPA license and/or graduate business degree
  • Prior experience with other property related accounting guidance (i.e., ASC 360, ASC 410, etc.).
