TL;DR

We are looking for a QA Engineer to lead the charge in creating more automated tests as we grow our product and engineering team. You will work closely with the rest of the engineering and product team to ensure that tests are reliable and fast, while also making sure we are testing the right things. Your main goal as a QA Engineer at Tango is to increase confidence in our releases through a combination of manual and automated testing. We’ll work together to find the right balance for each product.

You’ll be a vital member on an energized and diverse team, bringing experience from Uber, Amazon, Docker, Facebook, General Catalyst, Slack, Microsoft, Square, and Harvard Business School.

This is a remote position based in the US, with two offsites a year to meet your teammates in person (and explore different cities around the country!).

What You’ll Do

• Create and maintain an efficient automated test suite
  
  

Tango relies on automated tests to frequently release new features and product updates. As we continue to build, we need to ensure that our tests don't slow down or block our pull request process. You will be responsible for monitoring the reliability and performance of our automated test suite, coming up with creative ways to keep our test runs performant, deterministic, and not flaky.

• Support our engineers in writing more tests
  
  

At Tango, we believe all engineers should test their code. You will be an important part of mentoring and supporting our team to write more effective tests using the latest best practices.

• Find creative ways to test novel technology
  
  

Certain parts of Tango’s technology can’t be tested using traditional unit or end-to-end tests. In this role, you’ll work with engineers to design and implement innovative testing solutions to ensure a great customer experience for every feature.

• Lead and scale our bug bashes
  
  

As the leader of Quality at Tango, you’ll work with engineering and product to design and execute effective bug bashes and dogfooding sessions (we call them “soup tastings”) for various releases. You will help organize test cases and triage any findings, ultimately providing the green light for releases.

• Communicate and prioritize
  
  

You'll need excellent prioritization and communication skills to succeed in this role. We'll need your help prioritizing tests for the most critical user flows, maintaining a testing system that scales as we add more features, and always keeping the bar high on our releases. When you encounter a bug, you'll use your excellent communication skills to write well-documented tickets explaining to the team what the issue is and how we'll know when it's fixed.

What You Have

• 3+ years as a QA engineer
• Strong grasp of JavaScript (TypeScript preferred)
• Experience working with automation tools like Cypress.io, Playwright, Selenium, and/or Postman (Bonus points for Cypress and Playwright)
• Significant experience with JavaScript unit testing frameworks like Jest or Vite (Experience with Electron Desktop testing is a plus)
• Experience running tests on CI/CD systems, such as Github Actions
• Excellent eye for detail and ability to perform manual testing on features and releases

Compensation

Our base salary compensation is $130K - $170K for this role, and the total compensation package will also include equity and benefits. We value each employee based on their impact within the company, regardless of their location. Due to this, we set salary ranges for all roles based on function, level, and benchmark against similar-stage growth companies. We share salary ranges on all job postings to comply with local legislation and provide greater transparency to candidates. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including past candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above. Additionally, we offer an annual equity refresh program.
