The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking a highly experienced professional to serve as the Director of its Regional Policy and Implementation (RPI) division. CMAP is a mission-driven agency serving the 284 municipalities and 7 counties of northeastern Illinois as the region’s comprehensive planning organization. The agency has undergone an exciting chapter of growth and is implementing a portfolio of work that relates to both the region’s comprehensive plan and our internal Strategic Direction . CMAP is currently seeking candidates who have thorough knowledge of public policy, urban and regional planning practice, and an understanding of the intersections between environmental, economic, social, land use, and transportation considerations in planning. The ideal candidate will be a thought leader and have demonstrated leadership experience in transportation policy. This candidate should be able to guide work in the areas of freight, transit, safety and/or intelligent transportation systems.
The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate thorough knowledge of their subject matter expertise and external audiences and stakeholders. Successful candidates will possess strong program/project, staff and consultant management experiences and will have demonstrable experiences in program and project budgeting, grant management, and securing diversified funding sources. This position will exemplify the agency’s Core Values through serving with passion, fostering collaboration, leading with excellence, pursuing equity, and driving to innovate.
The selected candidate will directly support the RPI Deputy in Division management activities, serving in the Deputy’s capacity as needed. Programmatically, this position will partner in the development and execution of a multiyear program of projects to advance CMAP’s mission. This work will include oversight and leadership over multiple, complex projects with multi-disciplinary teams across agency departments. Success will require strong programmatic, organizational, project management, budget oversight, and communication skills. In addition to overseeing a program of work, the successful candidate will guide project teams and manage individual staff in their professional and personal growth.
Work will be done under the general direction of CMAP’s Deputy of Regional Policy and Implementation.
Salary Range: $124,835 - $152,923
Required Experience: Bachelor’s degree (in field or related field), 12-15 years professional experience, master’s degree preferred
