Job Summary:
The Regional Safety Coordinator will be responsible for implementation of safety & health programs and compliance with safety & health laws and regulations associated with Jarco Aggregates quarries, and Jarco Ready-Mix concrete batch plants including a fleet of ready-mix delivery trucks. This role will report to the Director of Safety and will work collaboratively with operations and management to provide guidance and S&H support to ensure that sustainable safety solutions are implemented.

Job Summary:
The Regional Safety Coordinator will be responsible for implementation of safety & health programs and compliance with safety & health laws and regulations associated with Jarco Aggregates quarries, and Jarco Ready-Mix concrete batch plants including a fleet of ready-mix delivery trucks. This role will report to the Director of Safety and will work collaboratively with operations and management to provide guidance and S&H support to ensure that sustainable safety solutions are implemented.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers’ health or safety.
- Promote an incident-free work environment by developing programs that routinely train, monitor, and assure a safe and compliant workplace.
- Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented.
- Recommend methods to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Plan, design, and administer safety & health programs for aggregate quarries and concrete ready-mix plants including the delivery fleet of drivers.
- Manage environmental risks.
- Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Issue safety equipment, conduct safety training programs, conduct onsite inspections of premises or equipment, investigate accidents or injuries.
- Evaluate safety performance of employees and subcontractors, document violations.
- Provides new employee health and safety orientations and develops material for these presentations.
- Inspects specified areas to ensure the presence of fire protection equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
- Will instruct, monitor, evaluate and record training activities.
- Monitor and enforce Health & Safety/OSHA and DOT Compliance while interfacing with employees.
- Use and provide special health & Safety knowledge to help site leadership drive behavioral changes in safety.
- Assist Managers and Supervisors in maintaining and administering the Company Drug & Alcohol policy, conduct and/or coordinate random, for cause, and post-accident drug testing when required.
- Assist site leadership in working knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations and assist site during MSHA inspections and investigations, providing local management with the expertise to interpret regulatory compliance issues and capacity to challenge inspector findings when relevant.
- Coordinate annual MSHA refresher training and other various periodic required trainings such as First Aid training.
- Works closely with area doctors regarding the treatment for on-the-job injuries and illnesses makes appropriate reports to various agencies on workers compensation injuries.
- Works with human Resources on the onboarding of new employees and employee corrective actions when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety and compliance activities including driver training and qualifications, vehicle inspections, and incident reports.
- Perform any other tasks and duties as requested, directed, or assigned to support and improve the overall team operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Federal OSHA/MSHA General Industry or Construction Industry regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and DOT regulations.
- Experience providing safety training and implementing safety initiatives.
- Ability to learn and navigate multiple internal computer applications and to interact with the data contained therein to form conclusions and strategies based on that data.
- Demonstrated experience presenting training material and leading project groups, including employees of all levels, vendors, and customers- looking for an advanced trainer with ability to train others as a trainer.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including WORD, EXCELL, POWERPOINT and advanced computer literacy in word processing, spread sheets, databases, and presentation software.

- Ability to establish priorities and solve a wide range of business, operational, and strategic management problems.
- Able to multitask effectively.
- Be able to work with technology and learn various software systems quickly.

- Must have and maintain a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record.
- MSHA experience highly desired, MSHA trainer card preferred.
- OSHA certifications highly desired, OSHA outreach trainer, CHST, CSHO highly desired.
- Experience with DOT regulations, driver qualifications, driver electronic logging and vehicle inspection reports preferred.
- Experience with MOTIVE drive camera system and reporting highly desirable.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

- Prior experience in mining or ready mix highly desirable.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- 3-5 years of safety and/or production experience in a heavy manufacturing or mining environment such as Sand & Gravel Mining, Limestone Mining, Cement, Lime, Gypsum, Pulp & Paper, Heavy Civil Construction, or Steel manufacturing desired.
- Bachelor’s degree in a science or technical field preferred.
- Completion of a safety degree or tracked safety or industrial hygiene program desirable.
- Must have a sound working knowledge of safety & health principles, procedures, and regulations demonstrated through progressive safety work experience in MSHA/OSHA/DOT federal safety laws.

- Requires full range of body motion for all extremities/spine including frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, crawling, twisting body, lifting, and reaching to prepare safety & health reports, make presentations to groups and perform plant safety inspections.
- Ability to perform job task assignments 8 to 14 hours per day, 6 days a week and occasional weekends.
- Required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, climb, squat, crawl, and twist entire body for up to 8-14 hours a day while being exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Job duties may require frequent and prolonged sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, twisting, reaching, and grasping for periods extending to 14 hours.
- Ability to work long hours at a computer terminal while generating presentations, working on projects, or performing data entry.
- Ability to stand for long durations while making presentations.
- Ability to climb stairs, use grab irons, climb ladders, and work at heights.
- Ability to work on stairs, ladders, raised platforms and flat surfaces at varying heights.
- Ability to work on a computer, operate a mouse, keyboard, and perform keystrokes for long durations.
- Ability to work safely in and around heavy mining equipment in often congested areas in a fast-paced environment and on rough terrain.
- Orientated to hear with ability to discriminate between sound and maintain awareness of surroundings.
- Ability to use/wear personal protective equipment, respirators, hearing protection, gloves, protective eyewear, hardhats, protective clothing, and industrial footwear.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. ground to shoulder height and up to 25lbs. occasionally
- Ability to see 20/40. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to walk and perform tasks on rough, uneven surfaces and terrain.

- Work will generally be 40% office and 60 % in field at operation sites.
- Frequent exposure to moving, mechanical parts, confined, & tight areas.
- Maintaining a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
- May be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils.
- May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule.
- May work outside for extended periods of time.
