Job Description
Well is looking for a creative and ambitious nutrition and sleep reporter to produce outstanding service and enterprise journalism that will help Times readers live healthier lives. The Well desk offers evidence-based guidance on a range of topics including mental and physical health, family and relationships.
In this role, you will write several in-depth, heavily-researched articles per month to help readers make informed decisions about their health. Your primary beats will be nutrition and sleep, but you should feel comfortable covering all aspects of health and wellness including chronic conditions, aging and drugs and supplements. In addition to traditional news and evergreen articles, your stories may be formatted as quizzes, explainers, visual pieces, features and profiles.
As a beat reporter covering nutrition and sleep, you will be constantly developing sources, staying on top of the latest research and trends, and chasing scoops. You should be able to connect the dots and spot trends before our competitors get to them. You should understand the intricacies and challenges of covering nutrition and sleep science and know how to read studies, talk to researchers and summarize findings for a lay audience. You should be eager to experiment and engage with readers via various platforms. And you should have tons of ideas, a track record of breaking news and the desire to be the go-to source for a health-obsessed audience.
This role requires precision, attention to detail, understanding of deadlines and the ability to work with a team, including close partnerships with editors on the desk.
This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance.
Responsibilities
The annual base pay salary for this role is between $111,049.64 and $125,000.00.
