Position Summary

The Division Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for a Research Assistant Professor on the fixed term track. The duties are two-fold. First, the successful applicant is expected to conduct independent original research focused on mucus biology in health and disease, including studies of both the respiratory and reproductive tracts. The expectation is that the successful applicant will generate independent external grant funding and supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in research activities. Second, the applicant’s duties will also include bioinformatics analyses and integration of large data, including analyses and integration of spatial transcriptomics and proteomics datasets. In this context, the successful applicant will be responsible for directing an Imaging Processing/Bioinformatics Integration Program. The program will serve as the basis for core components of multi-PI grants and will also serve as a recharge component of the UNC Respiratory Specimens Collection and Analysis Core.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

PhD and 3 years postdoctoral experience

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

Proficiency in Python computing language, image processing, and automation. Knowledge of pulmonary biology and applications of image processing and analyses to pulmonary biologic fluids, e.g., mucus. Experience with in vivo image acquisition and analysis in both animal models and human subjects.
