GW’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Tropical Medicine ( MITM ) conducts innovative, fundamental, basic, and translational research for HIV / AIDS and neglected tropical diseases. MITM has a strong tradition of training and policy advocacy for these infectious diseases, which initiate and perpetuate poverty and suffering worldwide. This Research Associate, Gazzinelli Lab position independently carries out research/development activities by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting, under general guidance from the Principal Investigator. Using a certain degree of creativity and latitude, the core responsibilities of this position include making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results. This position compiles results and prepares technical reports and documentation of outcomes. This role is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Working under general supervision, this position typically reports to a Principal Investigator.
Duties
- Collect, analyze, and report data.
- Monitor Lab supplies inventory and coordinate with research partners and vendors
- Ordering Lab supplies
- Provide technical support to researchers
- Independently conducts work complementary to the overall research goals of the lab
- Coordinate Mouse strains inventory
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
- Exceptional collaborative abilities and outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to assist lab members in the preparation and execution of experiments, both in vitro and in vivo, using human samples and murine mouse models.
- Ability to conduct independent research projects.
- Ability to support the lab by monitoring supplies inventory and ordering necessary supplies, reagents, and materials.
- Passion for scientific research.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
