Research Associate I – Genotyping

This Research Associate I will be part of the Genotyping group of the Molecular Biology department. The Genotyping team supports all transgenic activity within the Allen Institute and impacts all programs. This individual will be responsible for completing individual assignments from DNA isolation to PCR genotyping while working in coordination with team members to complete all processes of the Genotyping pipeline to meet deadlines. Excellent attention to detail and the willingness to work in a deadline-driven atmosphere is mandatory.

Essential Functions

  • Support the high-throughput genomic DNA isolation and genotyping processes
  • Operate liquid handling instruments and other automation
  • Follow standard operating procedures and good laboratory practices and regulatory requirements
  • Support small projects as a part of the Molecular Biology core team
  • Benchtop lab work including tissue transfer, multi-channel pipetting, single-channel pipetting, computer data entry, and working in a PCR hood
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in biology or related discipline (biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, etc.)

Preferred Education And Experience

  • 0-2 years relevant work experience
  • Work experience in a molecular biology lab
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to meet a dynamic work schedule and navigate task hand-offs between team members
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Multi-channel and 96 well format skills
  • Excellent work ethic displayed as a reliable, self-motivated, enthusiastic team player
  • Intermediate level ability with MS Office, especially Excel
  • Ability to learn new software programs

Work Environment

  • Laboratory environment, including potential exposure to biohazards

Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting to 30 pounds
  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment, repetitive motion with lab equipment
  • Push/pull up to 30lbs
  • Stooping, bending, crouching
  • Reaching, or climbing ladders

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is an essential job and expected to report for work regardless of weather and/or other conditions
  • This role is currently working onsite and is expected to work onsite for the majority of working hours. The primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N.

Annualized Salary Range

  • *$52,400 - $64,150
  • Final salary depends on required education for the role, experience, and level of skills relevant to the role, along with work location, where applicable.
