Under the general supervision of the Director of Discovery Science and Innovation, the R&D Research Associate III will direct the work of a medium-sized chemistry laboratory. The ability to perform a supervisory role and train other laboratory personnel is expected. Undertaking research projects in collaboration with academic and non-academic institutions, making innovative contributions and demonstrating good technical and scientific problem-solving skills are a part of this position. The incumbent will work across the Discovery Lab and Food Science Lab and support clinical lab analysis. This position will be responsible for supporting and managing the discovery laboratories’ basic operation and running analytical and biological assays, such as HPLC, ELISA, Mass Spec and ARCHITECT analytic platform (analysis of biomarkers in support of clinical studies). The incumbent will also maintain lab supplies, inventories and conduct other routine lab work as requested. As part of the lab operation management, the incumbent would be responsible for ensuring that the laboratory complies with all local, state, and Standard Process Inc. regulations for lab operation, which include keeping safety and training records for all lab scientists, quality assurance, inventory, ensuring all lab equipment in proper condition and maintained. The incumbent will participate in, initiating, organizing, developing and executing nutrition research studies and programs that will lead to commercially viable and innovative products. An ability to critically evaluate emerging science, including clinical studies, and effectively translate and communicate the results to those with varying levels of scientific training, is highly desirable. Developing or assisting with educational programs, interacting with investigators, collaborators and CROs to efficiently plan and complete nutrition related studies and initiatives, will be a part of the incumbent’s responsibilities.

Essential Functions
Perform required analytical assays on HPLC, GC, Mass Spec (Sciex) and other analytical assays
Responsible for the development and validation of analytical assays
Present data/results internally and externally
Direct, train and supervise other laboratory personnel
Primary duties: Support basic lab operation and compliance; running analytical assays
Prepare and present the data generated; follow the established SOPs and proper data recording protocols
Maintain safety documents and SDS’, hazard/biological waste handling; maintain all lab instruments
Ensuring that all personnel follow safety SOP’s and safety training as it pertains to analytical chemistry lab
Conduct literature search when needed
Contribute to writing scientific publications and grant applications
Perform required assay validation experiments to support initial tests
Maintain and run ARCHITECT platform
Accurately analyze/present data
Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner
Maintain good laboratory condition, including the condition of laboratory equipment, supplies and quality assurance programs, and maintain accurate records throughout all procedures
Qualifications
Education
BS, MS or PhD in a related field
Preferred areas of study: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Food Science, Biology, Immunology, Nutrition or other related areas
Industry experience preferred but not required
Experience
At least 3+ years’ experience
Experience in lab operation with knowledge of GLP regulations
Experience with basic laboratory skills
Experience managing people and training new lab personnel/intern/scientists in basic lab skills, safety, proper documentation, and compliance with lab regulations
Experience managing research projects
Experience developing chemical and biological assays required
Experience using extraction methods and automated lab analyzers
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of basic lab operation requirements and compliance with regulations governing discovery labs (chemical and biological biohazard handling regulations, safety, analytical instruments contracts and maintenance, GLP etc.)
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography)
GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry)
Knowledge of PCR methods and use of Luminex analyzers is a plus
Assay development across a variety of biochemical targets is a plus
