The primary purpose of this position is to support ongoing research in understanding Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and to help perform experiments to test potential treatments for AD and other

neurological diseases. This position requires an ability to work well independently as well as work closely with a team.

Hours are flexible but this position does require some weekend work.


Job Duties/Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of this position is to support ongoing research in understanding Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and to help perform experiments to test potential treatments for AD and other neurological diseases. This position requires an ability to work well independently as well as work closely with a team. Hours are flexible but this position does require some weekend work.


60% Conduct research projects involving mouse models of neurological diseases:

  • Coordinate schedules and perform stereotaxic surgery, behavioral testing and drug delivery on mouse models of neurological diseases.
  • Maintain tissue and animal databases and generate new tissue inventories for experiments.
  • Process and collect blood and tissue samples as needed.
  • Execute DNA, RNA and protein studies as needed through PCR, RT-PCR and western blotting.


30% Co-manage transgenic mouse colony:

  • Plan, schedule and perform various husbandry techniques (i.e., breeding procedures, animal identification, tissue collection and database management).
  • Develop and maintain breeding plans for various experimental studies.


10% Analyze data, present and discuss findings:

  • Analyze data collected from experiments
  • Present research findings in lab meetings.
  • Assist with written reports of research.
  • Discuss results and approaches with senior staff members.


Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials


Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS with at least 2 years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal six (6) years.
  • Previous experience handling rodents


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with stereotaxic surgery and/or animal behavior testing Experience with Western
  • blotting and PCR
