Responsibilities
The Safety Coordinator Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is responsible for:
- Leading and living Brinkmann’s culture of safety first
- Monitoring and discussing safety programs and efforts with on-site subcontractors and Brinkmann employees; ensuring safety is part of our culture and that all new hires have proper safety documents and information
- Stopping at once any violation or unsafe acts or practices
- Overseeing issuance of new hire safety documents and leading the immersion of new employees and subcontractors into the Brinkmann safety culture
- Participates in pre-mortem and preconstruction meetings such as tower crane assembly and disassembly, tilt up operations, precast erection, zero lot line projects, shoring, excavations 15' or greater, deeper utilities, masonry, high risk scaffolding, ROW operations, blasting, steel erection, SWPPP, Panelized systems, high risk jobsites, power energization, demolition, roofing, and setting rooftop equipment
- Coordinating with project supervision to ensure personal protective equipment/safety materials and first aid supplies are available and utilized, and all safety documents are posted on-site
- Verifying tools and equipment to ensure good quality
- Recording and forwarding copies of all safety related meetings, programs, safety pre-plans, inspections, correspondence, directives, citations, etc. to the Safety Manager and Safety Director for tracking
- Conducting safety/health inspections as required
- Keeping current all required safety documents and literature
- Overseeing protection of the public by minimizing construction hazards
- Monitoring maintenance of adequate first aid supplies
- Maintaining project OSHA 300 log of injuries/illnesses and coordinating corrective measures
- Implementing Brinkmann safety policies, procedures, and programs
- Coordinating compliance with Brinkmann’s Storm Water Pollution and Prevention Plans
- May be asked to serve as a mentor to new hires during onboarding
- Other duties as assigned
- Working directly with the Safety Manager, project managers, and superintendents to ensure safety is built into every project
- Overseeing the recording, notifying, and preparation of written report of any violations or unsafe practices to subcontractors for immediate corrective actions
- Coaching project team members on safety leadership and management practices
- Overseeing subcontractor project onboarding (pre-construction meetings, review site-specific safety plan and job hazard analysis (JHA), review training requirements, and orientation)
- Ensuring implementation of crisis management plan
- Ensuring effectiveness of site emergency response plans
- Coordinating responses and compliance reports with Brinkmann’s insurance company
- Investigating all injuries and review all accident reports, coordinating corrective measures with Brinkmann employees or subcontractor personnel
- Worker’s Compensation reporting
- Identifying project trends and executing proactive safety initiatives to eliminate incidents
- Identifying safety training needs and develop effective safety trainings in partnership with Talent Development
- Facilitating training for site personnel and ensuring that standards are per the OSHA\Brinkmann requirements and in compliance with Federal and State standards
- Managing all communications with government departments in regards of safety
- Arranging OSHA consultations of the site
- Assisting in OSHA compliance inspections and close out
- Minimizing construction hazards and enforce safety policies utilizing Brinkmann’s disciplinary policy
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or related field
- 1-3 years’ experience managing the safety efforts on large construction projects; prior field experience preferred
- Ability to manage/administer safety orientations, oversee substance abuse programs, investigate/report on injuries/illnesses/near misses and other to perform other various safety functions on-site
- Ability to work with all construction groups: management, owners, trades, and subcontractors
- Must be a motivated and task driven individual
- Ability to understand and solve complex challenges to present alternative solutions
- Demonstrated organizational and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

- The Safety Coordinator’s work is primarily performed outdoors in various weather conditions withsome exposure to health or safety hazards, including noise level may range from moderate to loud
- Moderate physical effort is required, including the ability to walk the job site, climb ladders andscaffolding, lift loads up to 50 lbs, perform hands-on work when necessary
- While performing the essential functions of this position, the individual may use hands to handle,control or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; bend, kneel, crouch and/or crawl.
- Individual work location will change or vary and/or position may require travel
- Environment will be demanding and fast paced; number of hours typically worked in a workweekmay exceed 40 hours per week
