The Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) Department manages our environmental performance, assures regulatory compliance and drives Our Journey to Zero, the company’s blueprint to achieve our goal to eliminate events that could inflict serious–or even fatal–injuries to employees or contractors, or result in severe process safety events.

This position is located at our Cedar Bayou Facility in Baytown, TX. The Safety Specialist works in a team environment specifically focusing on facility support through focus on recognition, identification, evaluation and control of safety hazards in addition to ensuring the facility remains in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. The Safety Specialist reports to the facility Safety Supervisor. The Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting the facility in achieving and maintaining its goal of zero incidents and unequivocal compliance with 29 CFR SS 1910 and relevant consensus standards which provide the basis for major areas of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with company, local, state and federal health and safety standards/regulations.
  • Support the facility’s Safety Group on new and existing projects and provides site turnaround/outages support as required.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain written health and safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Routinely interact with employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Support and facilitate employee involvement in the safety processes.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive health & safety plan for maintenance turnarounds and outages or as needed.
  • Provide safety support for maintenance turnarounds and outages.
  • Participate and provide safety leadership in the maintenance turnaround and outage planning process.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Facilitate the on-boarding process for on-site contractors, which includes base maintenance, projects, and turnarounds.
  • Lead, facilitate or participate on audits, project or process improvement teams and hazard analyses.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define and implement appropriate health and safety protective measures.
  • Act as the Safety Group Representative on projects, outages/turnarounds, and special assignments.
  • Perform any other safety related work as assigned by Safety Supervisor and/or Safety Superintendent.
  • Ability to interact and present to all levels of the organizations.
  • Lead or participate in Incident Investigation.
  • Facilitate employee and contractor safety and health committees.
  • Develops and implements health and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED with 10+ years of EHS Manufacturing experience OR associate’s degree or higher in health and safety field, or closely related discipline with 5 years of EHS Manafacturing experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA general industry and construction regulations, related consensus standards and field construction practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with the health and safety of projects, turnaround and outages.
  • Experience developing and implementing health and safety of projects, turnaround and outages.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Required Qualifications (continued)

  • Ability to work in a team environment or as an individual contributor.
  • Critical thinker, self-starter, highly motivated and detail oriented.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications, GSP, ASP, CSP, CHST or able to obtain within 18 months.
  • Experience with turnaround planning/execution and contractor safety management.
  • Trained/certified in incident investigation methodologies (Root Cause Analysis, Why Tree, 5 why, etc.)
