Base pay range

$40.00/hr - $55.00/hr

Position Summary:

The Consultant Scientist, Automation in the Molecular Characterization Group will join a dynamic group focused on conducting experiments at the forefront of pharmaceutical sciences. The Consultant Scientist will collaborate closely with Discovery Technologies scientists to design, develop, optimize, and validate new and existing molecular and cell biology workflows, aiming to improve throughput, timelines, and data quality. The successful candidate should have experience operating lab automation devices and liquid handlers. This role also involves maintaining, performing quality control, and validating laboratory instrumentation, as well as inspecting, calibrating, and cleaning the instruments. Additionally, the Consultant Scientist will work on identifying and operationalizing new techniques and provide training and support to group members. There will be opportunities for platform development and protocol optimization of molecular techniques for profiling DNA, RNA, and proteins, and the incumbent will also be encouraged to develop their own ideas and contribute to the broader group. Responsibilities:


Manage automation processes under the guidance of Automation Scientist to support a variety of applications across Discovery Technologies, including; application development, improvement, optimization, implementation, maintenance, training and support

Work closely with Automation Scientist to develop, optimize, and validate custom automation protocols for various molecular and cell-based assays

Ensure consistent and high-quality data outputs from a variety of high throughput, high content genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic platforms.

Develop and implement novel molecular platforms and applications under the guidance of Automation Scientist

Work with the entire molecular characterization team to ensure all instrumentation is properly maintained and calibrated

Collaborate closely with molecular characterization team to operate automation workflows and troubleshoot errors

Maintain Proper documentation and archiving of data and analyses

Additional roles and responsibilities

Communicate results via written and oral presentations as needed

Discuss laboratory operational processes with technical as well as non-technical personnel

Extensive cross-functional communication and collaboration with internal and external parties

Interrogate experimental conduct of third parties/vendors


Basic Requirements:

BS/BA in Engineering, Life Sciences, or Biology or other relevant fields with 2+ years of experience in a lab-based pharmaceutical setting with automation

MS/MA in Engineering, Life Sciences, or Biology or other relevant fields with 0----2 years of experience in a lab-based pharmaceutical setting with automation


Additional Preferences:

Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and operate Liquid Handling robots such as Hamilton, Tecan, and Beckman.

Proficiency in operating laboratory workcells and scheduling software like Cellario and Green Button Go.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Experience in validating workflows for automation.

Familiarity with NGS library preparations and other DNA/RNA based technologies.

Proven ability to collaborate across various scientific disciplines to achieve project goals and meet timelines.

Flexibility to adjust priorities over time in alignment with organizational and scientific goals.

Capacity to work both independently and as part of a larger collaborative team.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects with evolving priorities and deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Experience in processing, analyzing, and interpreting large biological data sets.
