Position Description
HGL is seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist in Ohio, near the Cleveland and Akron area. This position will be a full-time remote position working from home in Ohio or at the job site with occasional travel required. Candidates must be within commuting distance of the Cleveland/Akron area.

Position Description
HGL is seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist in Ohio, near the Cleveland and Akron area. This position will be a full-time remote position working from home in Ohio or at the job site with occasional travel required. Candidates must be within commuting distance of the Cleveland/Akron area.
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The person hired for this role will be responsible for:
- Supporting environmental field investigations and remediation projects at hazardous waste/contaminated sites under the direction of project managers and senior staff members.
- Participating and collaborating with field teams for collection of water, soil, soil vapor, surface water and sediment samples utilizing various sampling techniques.
- Assisting with data entry and analysis.
- Support field subcontractor oversight inclusive of drilling, monitoring well construction, waste transportation and disposal, and heavy equipment operation.
- Contributing to the preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, RD Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).
- Conducting field operations in a safe manner in accordance with project specific Site Safety and Health Plans / Health and Safety Plans.
- Potential for up to 20% travel within the U.S. as needed to support projects.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- A BA/BS degree in a field related to Environmental Studies such as Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Soil Science, Biology, or Chemistry.
- 4+ years of related work experience.
- Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, DoD, DoE, and/or EPA projects.
- Environmental field sampling, including various groundwater, biota, soil, and soil vapor sampling methodologies.
- Ability to log soil borings and familiarity with lithology.
- Prior experience contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, and work plans.
- A demonstrated history of responsibility, initiative, motivation, and creativity.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to participate in all project tasks including but not limited to field work, data analysis, and report preparation.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and other MS Office applications.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Experience as a Project Task Manager and/or Field Team Leader for environmental investigations.
- EPA Superfund experience. Direct experience working with EPA Region 5 and/or EPA Region 5 state (MN, WI, IL, IN, OH, MI) environmental agencies is very desirable.
- Strong work ethic with the desire to learn and expand role by taking on more responsibilities .
