Scientist/Sr. Scientist – Protein Sciences
A stealth mode Third Rock Ventures start up is seeking a dynamic and motivated Protein Scientist to become an integral part of the Discovery Biologics group. The successful candidate will spearhead the build-out of the Protein Sciences function supporting high-throughput expression, purification and characterization of recombinant proteins and antibodies. We are looking for an individual with outstanding communication and collaboration abilities, who excels in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the overall scientific strategy and build out of the Protein Sciences group within Discovery Biologics
- Design and generating expression constructs to support production of antibodies and protein antigens
- Conduct high-throughput expression of protein constructs using CHO/HEK cell lines
- Establish high-throughput purification platform to enable characterization of multiple protein constructs for downstream characterization
- Execute a wide range of biochemical and biophysical assays for screening and characterizing protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions
- Oversee external protein expression and purification research at CROs, managing activities, analyzing data, and facilitating seamless reagent transfers internally
- Proactively assess and integrate new technologies related to Protein Science
- Establish and manage a protein reagent database to assist in coordination of both in vitro and in vivo studies
Candidate Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, or related field or B.Sc./M.Sc. with 2+ years of relevant experience in the Biotech Industry.
- Proficiency with AKTA instrumentation, high-throughput purification methods, and a broad range of standard and unique purification and protein QC techniques.
- Protein characterization techniques, such as SDS-PAGE, Western Blot and analytical SEC are required.
- Strong grasp of biochemical methods for protein purification, including affinity, IEX, SEC, HIC, and MMC
- Track record of producing difficult to express proteins to enable advancement of drug discovery programs
- Proficiency in structural biology and computational tools and limited proteolysis to aid in designing of protein constructs
- Embraces new challenges and thrives in a dynamic, start-up environment
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic and high motivation
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team to meet deadlines and contribute to strategic company objectives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
