Position Summary

The Senior Accountant holds a key role in the accounting department by ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements. This position is responsible for safeguarding the integrity of accounting information through validation, reconciliation, and analysis of financial information. This role assists with closing processes. The Staff Accountant ensures adherence to established policies and procedures, collaborates with internal stakeholders, and contributes to the overall efficiency of financial operations.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

• General Accounting
• Provide guidance to junior staff
• Ownership and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
• Perform closing procedures including reconciling accounts and making journal entries as needed using accounting knowledge.
• In charge of explaining monthly variance analysis and putting together the financial packet for management.
• Oversee company credit card program and credit card reconciliation.
• Reconcile bank ledger and provide financial data for cash flow purposes.
• Analyze financial data and identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Investigate variances and reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy of financials.
• Perform variety of accounting projects based on business needs.
• Provide support for the accounting infrastructure of the organization.
• Foster a collaborative and result-oriented work environment.
• Assist with monthly closing of general ledger and prepare financial statements.
• Prepare documentation and provide support for financial audits and income tax requests.
• Generate various reports, including royalties, schedules, and reconciliations.
• Compliance
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within the organization.
• Create and implement efficient and effective processes for general accounting duties.
• Sales Tax
• Obtain sales tax permits and licenses as required.
• Reconcile sales tax between sales tax software and ERP to verify accuracy.
• File GST/HST returns for international sales.
• Responsible for other sales tax duties, including tax filings, amendments, managing resale certificates, and sales tax audits.
  

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
• Work with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment within scope of authority.
• Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in reconciliation and reporting.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs & Pivot Tables are a must).
• Ability to prioritize job duties effectively and be organized.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years minimum experience in the accounting field.
• 3+ years of general ledger experience required.
• 1-2 years of sales tax experience preferred, but not required.
• Experience with an ERP system, specifically Microsoft Business Central, is highly desired, but not required.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
