About The Team And The Role

The Product Knowledge, Content and Query Science team is the biggest contributor to eBay’s inventory and query processing and drives a significant portion of revenue. We are growing at a rapid pace and are committed to building a stellar team. We are a team where people who do things differently and win are rewarded and grow. Our team is results-oriented and hardworking but maintains a friendly and fun environment. We are building solutions for core e-commerce customer problems with state-of-the-art ML algorithms tailored to understand large-scale user behavioral signals. The Content Science team is responsible for driving several new innovations to eBay’s Search including image based search , multimodal solutions and embedding based retrieval. We are looking for leaders to join us and build the next generation of Content Understanding products in eBay. What You Will Accomplish

• Seek scientifically valid solutions that deliver real value to eBay customers
• Carry out statistical analyses on large and messy data
• Guide the process to build machine learning models and data pipelines to deliver insightful yet practical solutions
• Work with multiple teams to help promote standard scientific methodologies and processes in your field
• Present key technical and novel research work in public forums and conferences
• Drive impact with technical innovations to solve real world problems at eBay with optimized solutions
• Stay up to date with latest technological developments with Information Theory and Machine Learning
  
  
  

What You Will Bring

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent
• 5+ years (with PhD) or 8+ years (with MS) of industrial experience in a related field
• Industrial experience with all of the following: classification, regression, GBM, recommendation systems, clustering, DeepLearning/Neural NetworksIndustrial experience with one or more of the following: NLP, Computer Vision, Multimodal Modeling , Large Language Modeling, Embedding based Retrieval
• Experience in big data processing, e.g. Hadoop, SQL, Spark
• Experience with Python, and Java or Scala or C/C++ . Familiarity with frameworks such as Pytorch, tensorflow or JAX
• 5+ or more related publications in quality conferences or journals
• 1+ patents granted
  
  
  

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$168,400 - $262,900

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
