The Role

Oshi's Engineering team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead and manage the data operations of our increasingly complex care platform. At Oshi, data is central to all our operations across the organization. In this role, you will act as data engineering lead, collaborating with teams such as Product, Clinical, Growth, and Operation to provide technical solutions and shape data platform strategy. This is a hands-on role where you will also be responsible for implementing the solutions you design. As a senior-level position, there will be opportunities to build and lead a team as the company expands and its data needs grow.

What you'll do:

  • Take ownership of Oshi's existing data warehouse, supporting product, clinical, and strategy teams in developing dashboards and reports.
  • Collaborate with marketing and growth teams to build data pipelines that support member marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Design and implement complex data models for various use cases, including real-time analytics, ETL pipelines, and business intelligence.
  • Apply DevOps practices to data engineering, including CI/CD pipelines for data workflows, infrastructure as code, and automation of deployment processes.
  • Serve as the technical owner of Oshi's data platform, guiding architecture and tool selection based on business needs and industry best practices.
  • Develop data models that enhance operational efficiency and support clinical outcomes.
  • Create and manage tools, processes, and governance structures for handling sensitive client data.
  • Ensure the integrity and protection of data across Oshi's systems.

Who you are:

  • You hold a BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related field, or have equivalent experience in a relevant area.
  • You are an experienced data engineer with over 6 years in startup environments.
  • You have 5+ years of development experience with Python, including the use of Jupyter Notebooks for prototyping and data exploration.
  • Fluency in SQL.
  • Experience standing up data engineering infrastructure from scratch in a cloud environment.
  • You are familiar with tools like Apache Airflow, dbt (Data Build Tool), or Prefect for managing complex ETL pipelines.
  • Experience with FHIR standards, HL7, or other healthcare data interchange formats is a plus.
  • You are knowledgeable about data security and HIPAA compliance.
