Position Summary:

The Senior Director, Project Management is responsible for leading and building a centralized PM team of skilled project management professionals who support our Global Product Teams, functions and corporate PM needs. The role will drive establishing and maintaining PM best practices to enable the PM organization to increase efficiency and consistency across our product development efforts. This position is expected to be located in San Diego.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

These may include but are not limited to:

  • Hire, coach, and manage a team of project managers, who manage the cross-functional global product development teams and functional PM support
  • Coordinate with the Global Product Leaders and Functional Heads to ensure appropriate coverage and management of the product development programs and other organization PM needs (e.g. functional needs, corporate initiatives)
  • Onboard and orient new PMs to expectations, processes and practices
  • Ensure that the projects are managed consistently leveraging PM best practices and standard tools
  • On an ongoing basis, work with the project managers to identify new best practices and ensure that they are implemented across project management
  • Engage with project management and operations functions not part of Project, Portfolio & Alliance Management (PPAM) for continuous learning and improvement of PM best practices (e.g., Clinical Operations, IT, CMC)
  • Partner closely with the Head of PMO on development of stage appropriate and value-added processes, best practices and tools (e.g., integrated timeline template, TPPs, stage gate process, governance, core and sub-team processes) to increase efficiency and consistency of global product development and team processes and deliverables.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management to improve ongoing program reporting and define and track program metrics to enhance portfolio management and team performance
  • Contribute to the leadership of the group as a member of the PPAM leadership team
  • Focus on both immediate/short-term (<2 years) and long range (5 years) strategic planning to determine function objectives
  • Key participant in headcount planning and determining departmental needs to meet corporate objectives
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Education and Experience:

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field required. Advanced degree in science related field preferred
    • 15 years of relevant experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical field with minimum of 8 years direct project management experience
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in a supervisory role
    • Demonstrated management and mentoring experience with strong desire to support individuals professional and personal development
    • Experience in leading and building teams along with effectively identifying and resolving conflicts
    • Adaptive leadership style to influence teams without formal authority
    • Proven ability to drive change in a cross-functional matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders and constituents, with the ability and strength to successfully manage change
    • Complex problem-solving abilities with focus on accomplishing company goals and objectives in a dynamic business environment
    • Strong proficiency with project management practices, tools and methodology including Gantt Charts, MS Project, Power Point, SharePoint, One Pager, Power BI, integrated portfolio management, PPM platforms
    • Excellent business acumen with demonstrated ability to develop solutions that support product, team, corporate and business objectives
    • Strong communication, organization and negotiation skills are mandatory
    • Highly collaborative with outstanding relationship building skills

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and responsibilities of this job.     Laboratory Activities (if applicable): Biology and chemical laboratory environment experience needed. Environmental health and safety requirements also apply.

    Travel:

    You may be required to travel for up to 10% of your time.

    The Anticipated Base Salary Range: $216,000 - $270,000

    In addition to your base pay, our total rewards program consists of a discretionary annual target bonus, stock options, ESPP, and 401k match.     The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience and education. Crinetics Pharmaceuticals is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
