Job Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Scope Magazine team is seeking a highly engaged, curious, team-oriented senior editor to participate in all facets of ideating, creating, and producing Scope, our flagship print and digital middle school resource for English Language Arts. This person will be a key member of our small, close-knit and deeply committed team and immerse themselves in the world of middle schoolers and their teachers.

Responsibilities
- Research, write, and edit short articles and longer features
- Aid in producing videos and other multimedia
- Work closely with editorial leadership to ideate new features and support materials calibrated to the ever-shifting interests of middle schoolers and changing needs of the middle school classroom
- Contribute fresh multimedia, multi-genre story ideas to engage middle schoolers, build knowledge, and support curriculum
- Write and edit support materials, including quizzes, skill-building activities, and vocabulary.
- Contribute to the monthly update of digital resources, working closely with managing editor and members of the digital team
- Travel for school visits and professional learning opportunities
- Develop a keen understanding of middle school pedagogy and trends, as well as the interests and needs of early adolescents.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong instincts for what makes an important, engaging story for early adolescents
- Ability to craft well-researched, age-appropriate, and engaging stories for middle schoolers
- Deep interest in middle-school education and best teaching practices
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Be collaborative, flexible, and happy to work under supervision in a team setting
