Job Purpose

BBC Studios is seeking a Senior Manager of Finance and Accounting for our Los Angeles office. This role is responsible for the financial accounting management and provision of accurate and timely financial information to support the BBC Studios (LA Productions) team in providing best practice financial services to Finance Business Partners, the Central Finance teams and International Productions. The role will report to the Senior Vice President, Finance & Accounting.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities

  • Manage continuous financial accounting for all LA Productions, including revenue recognition and production cost amortization. Requires posting and/or reviewing relevant journal entries and maintaining underlying financial models, manage reporting and analysis, develop and strengthen internal controls and processes.
  • Responsible for month-end close and year-end process including preparation/review of journal entries, recording financial transactions, recording accruals and amortization, reconciling account balances., intercompany eliminations, consolidation, financial statement reviews, account reconciliations, as well as quarterly procedures surrounding financial reporting and disclosures.
  • Provide insightful analysis on actuals versus forecast/budget variances for each reporting period. Maintain rolling forecast and financial model and support SVP in preparation of annual budget.
  • Review and analyze production cost reports and provide related feedback.
  • Prepare monthly flash and financial reports. Highlight any issues or changes to forecast and prepare related commentaries.
  • Perform detailed review of Profit and Loss accounts, Balance Sheets and produce written commentaries.
  • Produce quarterly forecast and annual budget templates, schedules and documents as required. Load forecast and budget data.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly cash forecasts.
  • Lead external audit including preparing supporting schedules and checking sample support before submission to auditors.
  • Provide business and financial expertise to various ad hoc projects.
  • Constantly streamline processes to create more meaningful financial reporting and efficiency.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills. Must have a positive attitude and great communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science, Business Administration: Accounting. CPA preferred. US GAAP and IFRS.
  • 5+ years relevant experience in management accounting, financial planning, and/or public accounting in fast-paced deadline driven environments.
  • Very strong computer skills with a good working knowledge of the SAP accounting (preferable) and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook). Advanced Excel skills are a must.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing. Candidate is promptly responsive to members of the team and key stakeholders especially when working from home as we are currently in a hybrid work environment.
  • The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the division’s management and central accounts team, at all levels within BBC Studios.
  • The ability to use own initiative and work independently, and work under pressure in a deadline driven environment while following specific instructions and maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to start work to align with UK time zones, which means we start by 8:30 AM PST each morning to overlap with their hours. On occasion there may be meetings that start before 8:30 AM PST as well.

Compensation

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $120,000 to $145,000. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.This range is not inclusive of a competitive bonus, flexible, hybrid working schedule & benefits including but not limited to: 100% BBCS covered medical & dental insurance, vision, & 401k match.
