Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Manager of Underwriting and Risk to lead our team of payment industry underwriters and risk managers. This role is vital to ensuring that our risk management framework is robust while effectively serving both traditional and high-risk merchants.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: Hire, train, and retain top talent in underwriting and risk management. Provide mentorship and support to ensure team members thrive.
• Underwriting Management: Oversee underwriters in making informed decisions on incoming applications, including setting processing terms and conducting risk assessments. Ensure coordination with prospective clients, sales agents, and leadership for optimal decision-making.
• Risk Management: Lead risk managers in monitoring account activity post-activation to mitigate unforeseen risks and maintain an optimal risk position.
• Strategic Implementation: Develop and implement risk management strategies and policies. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including AML, KYC, PCI-DSS, and other frameworks.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Operations, and Compliance, to streamline processes and optimize risk mitigation efforts.
• Analytical Expertise: Utilize tools such as credit and other alternative data platforms, risk monitoring software, and watch lists to make informed decisions. Analyze supporting documentation such as bank statements, merchant processing statements, tax returns, and corporate registration documents.
• Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in risk management and underwriting. Incorporate relevant insights into company strategies and operations.
• Performance Metrics: Manage to objective metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to maximize team impact and portfolio performance.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in the high-risk eCommerce payment processing industry or with major industry partners (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Fiserv, TSYS, Wells Fargo, Fresno Bank).
• Expertise with tools used for decision-making.
• Comprehensive knowledge of AML, KYC requirements, and compliance best practices (PCI-DSS and other regulatory frameworks).
• Experience analyzing supporting documentation, including bank statements, merchant processing statements, tax returns, and corporate registration documents.
