Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Managing Editor to oversee the production of Conexiant's flagship digital and print ophthalmology publication, Ophthalmology Management. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of healthcare media and a passion for producing high-quality, engaging content. The Senior Managing Editor will be responsible for shaping the editorial vision, managing the editorial calendar, and ensuring the delivery of compelling and accurate content that meets the needs of our audience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Editorial Strategy and Planning:
  • Develop and implement the editorial vision and strategy for the publication.
  • Create and manage the editorial calendar, ensuring timely delivery of content.
  • Identify and pursue new editorial opportunities and content themes relevant to ophthalmology.
  • Represent the Conexiant ophthalmology brands at 1-2 conferences per year to engage with key experts and industry.
  • Content Development:
  • Oversee the creation, editing, and publication of news, articles, feature stories, conference coverage, and multimedia content.
  • Ensure all content is accurate and adheres to industry standards and journalistic ethics.
  • Work closely with the editor in chief, editorial board, subject-matter experts, and contributing writers to gather and present information effectively.
  • Team Management:
  • Lead and mentor a team of editors, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Provide editorial guidance and feedback to team members, ensuring alignment with editorial standards and goals.
  • Coordinate with freelance writers, subject-matter experts, and other external contributors.
  • Quality Control:
  • Implement and maintain editorial standards and processes to ensure content quality and consistency.
  • Review and approve content before publication, addressing any issues or revisions as necessary.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging research, and advancements in ophthalmology to keep content relevant and authoritative.
  • Audience Engagement:
  • Analyze readership metrics and feedback to understand audience needs and preferences.
  • Develop strategies to increase reader engagement and expand the publication’s reach.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to align editorial content with promotional efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of editorial experience, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or managerial role, preferably within medical or scientific publishing.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare publishing, including current trends, research, and key issues, preferably in ophthalmology.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience mentoring and guiding editorial staff.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with digital workflow management tools and content management systems.
