Responsibilities:
- Design custom heavy material handling solutions for manufacturing environments.
- Apply sound engineering principles to designs, offering clear justification for design decisions.
- Collaborate with Applications Engineer, Sales Engineer, and customer to understand requirements, goals, and constraints.
- Provide effective technical solutions that align with project objectives.
- Lead coordination and communication with vendors to ensure timely procurement of components.
- Work in partnership with the Sales Engineer to manage projects.
- Monitor project progress, assess risks, and proactively address challenges to maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Review and approve design documentation, change orders, and specifications to ensure accuracy and quality control.
- Utilize 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor) to create preliminary and detailed drawings.
- Utilize ERP software (Total ETO) as a “single source of truth” to track project status.
- Update schedules, reports, and documents based on revisions and other changes to the project.
- Prepare operations manuals for equipment.
- Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices in material handling and apply them to designs.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and interns in the mechanical engineering team.
- Lead the mechanical engineering team in the absence of the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, focusing on solutions for heavy industrial applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven success in managing complex mechanical engineering projects from concept to completion.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong project management abilities, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
- Preference given to candidates with experience in custom material handling equipment design.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software, with a preference for Autodesk Inventor.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced and sometimes uncertain environment.
