The Commercial Solutions Area, Chief Technology Office (CSA CTO) is a global team that works across customer-facing and product teams to onboard, strengthen and synthesize solutions for Enterprise commercial customer sales and delivery, and accelerate the availability of emerging and future growth solutions.

We are hiring for a Senior Product Designer. In this role you are responsible for the day-to-day leadership, tasking, direction, production and delivery of designs for our technical assets, products, and stories. You model design best practices and deliver designs that set the bar for quality and efficiency for others. This role ensures successful project delivery by creating estimated schedules, well-defined product roadmaps, and ensuring work is completed on time, and at quality.

You leverage design practices, creative processes and ideation methodologies to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our technical assets and demos showcase the highest standards of usability and delight. Your role involves driving innovation and ensuring a customer-centric approach to design while creating best-in-class design systems, visual designs, user interface designs and user experiences. You will partner with key stakeholders to successfully align our assets and solutions while communicating compelling stories and delightful user experiences.

This role works across a range of technical assets and products focused on AI (artificial intelligence), sustainability and showcase demonstrations and stories. You will help shape the standard in quality and consistency of the demos featured in our Microsoft Innovation HUB (previously Microsoft Technology Centers). You will design how our top priority experiences are showcased and help bring clarity to the roadmap and catalog of featured solutions. You will also lead and deliver the designs, experiences, and stories for technical assets and products across our portfolio in a way that enhances functionality and user experience.

As a Senior Product Designer you bring a deep understanding of design process, design thinking and are skilled in a range of design executions. You are well-rounded in product development across concepting, prototyping, and product design (including UX, UI and Visual Design) and storytelling. You have good communication skills, foster collaboration, lead with empathy, and create with skilled expertise.

Responsibilities

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicates with cross-disciplinary teams inside and across studio(s) through all stages of design and development. Owns communication for what one is doing in a proactive way. Identifies which mode of communication should be used. Manages tonality, being respectful, inclusive, etc. Communicates up and out to leaders.
  • Communicates a compelling, convincing product story to a specific audience. Shares stories to leaders and adjusts narrative depending on the audience.
  • Works with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define and iterate on new and existing product features. Collaborates with, creates, and helps the team deliver product design results. Begins to influence stakeholders across a few disciplines.
  • Connects dots between teams to enable collaboration, identifying opportunities to build on the work of others and leverage previous work.

Product Design

  • Generates and leads ideation solutions for complex products (e.g., involving many constraints, needing workarounds, requiring holistic view of interconnected systems) to improve product designs. Utilizes a variety of perspectives when ideating (e.g., business, experience, technology).
  • Synthesizes complex ideation solutions to a concise articulation of user wants and subsequent solutions. Facilitates enrollment for an ideation exercise as part of a design sprint.
  • Builds prototypes for new products as efficiently as possible. Presents to team to receive feedback and understand user needs. Advocates for prototyping.
  • Estimates individual schedule(s), and creates schedules and planning systems across teams. Defines and prioritizes product plans. Creates clarity for other members of the team. Begins influencing the prioritization of the product backlog.
  • Identifies needs that are not spoken and includes them in end-to-end design plan and process. Considers multiple factors such as user insights and business needs and begins to translate needs into product plans.
  • Develops a synthesis of user insights and compares with data to identify larger issues that may not be apparent for user desires. Collaborates with product owners and development team members to shepherd end-to-end experiences from concept to ship for products
  • Contributes to the use and adoption of latest design system (e.g., templates, components, information architecture, navigation models, design trends) updates in the industry. Ensures products are aligned with company-wide systems. Helps others use the system and drives consistency and alignment within the team.

Leadership

  • Provides guidance to the team of product designers. Ensures full understanding of the original design and vision, and links to established problem and/or goal. Begins to mentor designers in specific areas of expertise. Influences those outside of design. Interviews and screens candidates.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
Preferred Qualifications And Experiences

  • 4+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
  • Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design
Product Design IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
