The Veterans Affairs business unit helps transform the VA into a modern digital services organization where Veteran outcomes are at the center of every effort. We partner with the VA to design and deliver seamless user experiences for Veterans, their families and caregivers, and VA employees. By applying better practices in service design, product management, and technology, we enable VA to increase the usage, quality, and reliability of services and decrease the time Veterans spend waiting for outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities
In this role, you will serve as an experienced individual contributor within a team, with the expectation that you will further develop your leadership, guidance and mentoring skills. With minimal oversight from leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the goal of meeting scope, schedule and delivery requirements. A Senior Product Manager impacts the long-term goals of the program, while contributing to the development of the program’s product management practice. You may serve as the discipline’s primary lead when working with stakeholders and utilize strong influential skills to drive improvements in product management processes and practices. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. A Senior Product Manager impacts the long-term goals of the program, while contributing to the development of the program’s product management practice. You may serve as the discipline’s primary lead when working with stakeholders and utilize strong influential skills to drive improvements in product management processes and practices. Primary expectations of a Senior Product Manager include:
- Strong influential skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Serves as a mentor and coach to other product team members
- Leads cross functional efforts for delivery team members and team leads; may serve as the primary technical point of contact for stakeholders
- Primarily focused on program and delivery strategy, but also supports tactical assignments
- Considered an expert with agile methodologies; ability to lead cross-functionally and deliver based upon requirements
- Leads a cross-functional team to deliver new products given the mission and goals of the customer.
- Works with a client/product owner to shape the vision and strategy for a product or program and adopt more iterative and outcome-driven ways of working
- Shapes the vision and narrative for the product by developing artifacts, like a “product brief” and related roadmaps; with the goal of instilling a shared purpose and metrics to define success
- Works with customers to develop strategies that focus on the highest value outcomes for the program given goals, needs, and constraints
- Successfully advocates for user needs and lean methods when setting priorities and managing tradeoffs
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience
- 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education (totaling 13 years of relevant experience)
- Extensive project management background with an emphasis on maintaining and enforcing process.
- Experience working on more technically focused fields
- 1+ years experience directing assignments for cross-functional teams
- QA experience
- Mobile experience
- Accessibility experience
- Ability to obtain/maintain any of the following
- CSPO, CPM, CSM or other related certifications
