Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer with a passion for mechanical design and a proven ability to lead and manage complex projects. In this role, you’ll be the driving force behind the development of innovative, high-quality products, working closely with our global New Product Development (NPD) team. As the primary liaison between Product Marketing, Factory-located Engineering, and Factory Manufacturing, you will play a critical role in ensuring the success of multiple projects.

You will be the technical leader, guiding your team through the entire NPD process—from concept to production. This is a highly visible role that requires a motivated and dynamic individual who can align and inspire the project team, overcome obstacles, and achieve both personal and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Coordination:

  • Project Management: Lead and coordinate a cross-functional, global project team, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and meet design, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical authority for design and market requirements, setting engineering product specifications and guiding the team through the development process.
  • Mentorship: Provide direction and mentorship to design engineers and mechanical designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Global Collaboration: Act as the key communicator between North America Marketing and Asia-based engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams, ensuring alignment on technical issues and customer requirements.

New Product Development

  • Innovation: Lead multiple projects through the product development lifecycle, independently managing the process to deliver innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Testing and Analysis: Develop and execute engineering tests and protocols, including strength and fatigue analysis, to ensure products meet stringent design requirements.
  • Cross-functional Leadership: Facilitate cross-functional meetings to discuss project status, set priorities, and drive technical design reviews.
  • Design Excellence: Lead overall engineering design efforts while supporting factory engineers in detailed CAD design and drawing creation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Advocate for continuous product improvement, value engineering, and design for manufacturability, ensuring that products exceed customer expectations.

Production Transition Support

  • Quality Assurance: Review quality and inspection data, perform product sample reviews, and make informed design decisions to enhance cost and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Support the introduction of new products into mass production, developing functional requirements and test plans, and providing training to Asia-based teams on design requirements.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience

  • A minimum of 6 years of design experience, with a strong preference for consumer products.
  • Proven experience in Project Engineering or Project Management.
  • Extensive experience designing components for a variety of manufacturing processes, including plastics, sheet metal, tube forming, casting, machining, welding & joining, etc.

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in 3D CAD and related design analysis tools (SolidWorks preferred).
  • A strong mechanical background, demonstrated through professional experience and personal hobbies.

Additional Requirements

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a logical approach to decision-making.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as project needs dictate (approximately 2 to 4 trips per year).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with teams across different geographies and time zones.
