Senior Underwriter - Residential Transitional Lending Expert

Position Overview

The role involves implementing underwriting policies and managing all aspects of loan decisions. Responsibilities include assessing the economic health of applications, reviewing loan conditions, enforcing fraud detection, and verifying risk factors to ensure the creation of saleable loans. Building relationships with internal and external parties is also a key aspect of this role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review all Residential Transitional Lending (RTL) or Non-QM loan components for completeness, accuracy, and integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with investor guidelines by examining transaction and investor manuals.
  • Analyze appraisals, preliminary title work, and purchase contracts.
  • Weigh credit risk to ensure liability results in a saleable loan.
  • Implement and enforce fraud detection techniques.
  • Request supplemental information as necessary.
  • Recognize risk factors that may compromise loan quality.
  • Execute loan decisions and review conditions, aiming for an expected production level of 4 underwriting decisions per day.

Experience & Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient in Encompass.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of various mortgage documents.
  • Knowledge of RTL terminology, loan calculations, and file analysis.
  • Working knowledge of investor underwriting and selling guidelines.
  • Familiarity with income calculation methods for Non-QM loans, including reviewing Tax Returns and bank statement analysis.
  • Ability to stay updated with new guidelines and policies.
  • Ability to analyze large volumes of financial data.
  • Minimum of five years of mortgage banking and RTL underwriting experience.
  • Proven track record of processing 3 to 5 new files and conditioning 4 to 6 files per day.

Work Environment

  • This position operates in an office setting, primarily sedentary, with routine use of a computer.
  • Remote work is an option.
  • The noise level is usually moderate, and business travel may vary the work environment.
