Senior Writer Editor – Remote (U.S.)

Background:

Kent, Campa and Kate Incorporated (KCK) is a federal contracting company that provides professional services to Government Agencies. We are currently seeking candidates for a Writer Editor position supporting the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General.

Position Summary:

The OIG is responsible for safeguarding the integrity of HHS programs and ensuring the health and well-being of their beneficiaries. Through audits, investigations, and evaluations, OIG reports to the Secretary of HHS and Congress, offering recommendations to improve the management and operations of HHS programs.

We are seeking an experienced Writer-Editor to join the Executive Secretariat within the OIG’s Division of Operations. This position requires expert-level editorial skills to support the Office of Evaluation and Inspections (OEI) by editing and reviewing a wide range of materials such as reports, memorandums, congressional correspondence, and publications. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment, ensuring all materials meet OIG’s editorial standards and deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Education Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field
  • Experience Minimum: At least tenyears of experience in corporate, federal agency, or journalistic writing and editing
  • Clearance: Moderate Risk Public Trust clearance is required
  • Proven experience as an editor with a strong portfolio of writing/editing/proofreading work
  • Expertise in grammar, syntax, punctuation, and one standard editing style (e.g., AP, Chicago, Words into Type)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to negotiate editing issues with authors
  • Experience with electronic document tracking systems or complex databases, particularly SharePoint
  • Knowledge of media law and ethical guidelines
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage complex document routing processes

  • Graduate degree

Working Duties (including, but not limited to):

  • Copyedit and review reports, congressional correspondence, and other materials for grammar, style, and adherence to editorial standards (AP Style, Plain Language)
  • Proofread and package documents for signature, ensuring completeness and accuracy of attachments
  • Edit and route documents using SharePoint and other document tracking systems
  • Ensure materials conform to editorial guidelines and are accurate by conducting necessary research
  • Modify the style and format of content to suit the appropriate medium and audience
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and other editors to improve content quality
  • Meet deadlines and maintain budget requirements

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) clearance. Candidates must undergo a background investigation to determine eligibility for a Public Trust position
