Position Description

Mechanism is seeking an SEO Manager to oversee SEO efforts across multiple high-growth startups in our portfolio. As an SEO Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, operations, and reporting of all SEO and Linkbuilding initiatives, working closely with our Head of Organic Growth, portfolio CEOs, and a variety of other growth team members. This role will sit under Mechanism's internal Growth team and report to our Head of Organic Growth.

We are looking for a results-driven individual with a strong track record of driving growth through SEO tactics. You will be a hands-on individual who thinks strategically about the function of SEO as search engines continuously shift the landscape. You will have a passion for technical excellence and user-first strategies that drive results.

As our SEO Manager, you will also manage the development and implementation of SEO strategies. From technical audits to content optimization, you will be the driving force behind improving search engine visibility for our portfolio companies.

You will work closely with CEOs and other stakeholders to ensure that SEO efforts are aligned with business goals and overall objectives, and you will be responsible for delivering measurable results against key performance indicators (KPIs).

Key Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Partner with portfolio company CEOs to develop SEO strategies and roadmaps to drive organic business growth. This includes both on-page, off-page and technical SEO.
  • Oversee our Linkbuilding function to ensure we're thoughtfully growing portfolio company's backlink profiles.
  • Develop SEO initiatives for portfolio companies and work with our partnerships, linkbuilding, content, and product teams to execute.
  • Identify high-value target keywords and analyze their SERPs to build and execute a strategy.
  • You will explore SEO applications for AI and implement these to amplify your results and operational efficiency (e.g., leveraging AI to increase the number of backlinks while decreasing cost per link).
  • You will monitor daily SEO performance and deliver weekly reports to the portfolio companies you support on how you are tracking against growth goals. You will use this information to identify and recommend actionable opportunities for improvement.
  • You will work with our Content Marketing Lead and Linkbuilding Team on SEO/Content/Linkbuilding projects and foster alignment across initiatives.
  • Actively communicate with CEOs to ensure alignment and transparency in SEO efforts.
  • Utilize tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ahrefs, SEMRush, and Similarweb to analyze the performance of both our companies and our competitors.
  • You will stay up-to-date on industry and competitor trends, and use this information to evaluate the performance of your own brands against the market.
  • You will confidently educate portfolio company CEOs on SEO and effectively communicate the reasoning behind your strategy recommendations and findings.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of strategic and operational SEO experience, with a focus on driving tangible business growth through organic search.
  • A degree in business, marketing, engineering, or a related field, with a strong analytical mindset and ability to think in systems.
  • Experience with Google Analytics & Search Console and SEO tools such as Ahrefs, SEMRush Screaming Frog and SimilarWeb.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as popular CMS platforms, such as WebFlow.
  • A deep understanding of technical SEO elements, such as site architecture, core web vitals and structured data.
  • A deep understanding of Linkbuilding and digital PR, with proven experience in developing and executing successful backlink strategies that improve domain authority and search engine rankings.
  • A deep understanding of the importance of using revenue growth as a key performance indicator (KPI), as well as how to forecast organic revenue trajectory for a high-growth startup. At Mechanism, the ultimate goal of SEO efforts is to drive business growth.
  • Exposure to growth marketing areas beyond SEO, such as growth product, partnerships, and paid media. This will help you have a more holistic view of growth, enabling you to identify cross-channel opportunities and drive a comprehensive growth strategy.

This role is full-time and will need to overlap with US MT for the majority of the workday. It is an exciting opportunity that demands a level of dedication beyond the standard 9 to 5. We are fully remote – you can work wherever you're most productive. We are unable to provide Visa or work permit sponsorship at this time.

Our compensation packages are designed to make this your dream job for the short and long term. Each compensation package is tailored to suit your priorities and can include base, equity, and performance bonus based on the success of our portfolio companies. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and an unlimited time off policy with a two-week minimum.
