Site Civil/Structural Construction Supervisor – Independent Contractor Position

Position Description: The Site Civil/Structural Construction Supervisor is responsible for on-site supervision and oversight of all activities relating to the civil and structural work scope completion of a natural gas-fired peaking power facility located near Denver, Colorado.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Maintain a safe work site and working environment. Assure site safety programs are adhered to and safety awareness is prioritized.
  • Assure adherence to established environmental and permit requirements, regulatory and policy conditions, and other necessary governmental obligations from a civil and structural scope or work perspective
  • Assure quality civil/structural workmanship on site by the General Contractor (GC) and/or other involved parties
  • Gain full and timely understanding of appropriate Project documentation and scope, including GC scope and obligations.
  • Assist in tracking and compliance regarding all key Project civil/structural documentation, including test reports, submittals, RFI’s, change orders, invoice content, earned values, schedule progress, etc.
  • Witness and approve of civil/structural testing where applicable and assure maintenance of site civil/structural test documentation
  • Adhere to established Project budgetary constraints
  • Evaluate Project schedules from a civil/structural perspective and work with GC to modify schedule activities/resources to assure timely Project completion
  • Maintain oversight of GC civil/structural activities, interface with GC civil/structural personnel on a daily basis.
  • Review and comment to GC civil/structural procedures, and construction processes, including constructability reviews
  • Evaluate GC civil/structural progress for payment purposes
  • Control and manage changes to GC civil/structural scope to the greatest extent possible
  • Work with other disciplines to ensure smooth transition and coordination between discipline work scopes.
  • Coordinate with Owner’s Engineer regarding civil/structural design and procurement activities and any necessary changes. Assist or make recommendations value engineering where applicable.
  • Prepare or assist in preparing daily, weekly and monthly reports of ongoing civil/structural site activities and issues on a routine and as-needed basis.
  • Coordinate with Lender’s Engineer as required.
  • From a civil/structural perspective, manage warranty records as-built drawings, and other pertinent documentation up to and including Project close-out after Final Completion
  • Perform other activities as necessary to ensure continuity with efficient and timely progress of the Project
  • Position reports to Owner’s Project Site Construction Manager


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred, with 7+ years of related civil/structural power plant construction experience, with experience in supervisory roles. Degree requirement can be supplemented if candidate has 15+ years of related experience.
  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Proven track record in delivering high-quality Projects.
  • Ability to manage personnel and delegate work according to abilities and skills.
  • Ability to present to senior management to gain approvals.
  • General knowledge of building codes, municipal permitting and regulations, and ability to read blueprints.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficient use of MS Office products ability to interpret construction-related scheduling software (P6).
  • Working experience and knowledge including, but not limited to, site cut/fill, grading, leveling, erosion control, compaction, drainage, road preparation, piling, structural foundations, landscaping, painting, post-construction site restoration
  • Position involves sitting, standing, and/or movement, the ability to exert minimal force of up to 50 pounds and occasionally exert up to 80 pounds of minimal force to carry, lift, push, pull, and otherwise move objects. Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding and other means to reach and observe all areas of building, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid USA Driver’s license


Compensation:

  • Position is for an on-site 10-month contract position based on 1099
  • Hourly based (50-hour week, M-F, subject to overtime and/or modification if necessary); compensation rate based on experience level.
  • Applicable per diem for area.
