Title: Specialist, Elementary Science Education Professional Development


We are looking for an experienced science education professional development specialist to join our dynamic nonprofit team working to bring equity and opportunity to elementary and middle school children in East Bay schools.


Organization: Community Resources for Science (CRS) is a nonprofit organization based in Berkeley that helps teachers and scientists work together to bring science learning to life for elementary and middle school students in the Bay Area. We provide information, support, and training for K-8 teachers, and engage hundreds of scientists and engineers from academia and industry in volunteer outreach leading science lessons in schools.


Position: Part time (20 hours per week), $35-$40 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated success in similar roles. We anticipate opportunity to grow this role to 30-40 hours per week within 6 – 9 months. Some professional development program delivery is in person, some work can be done on remote/hybrid basis. Must reside in California. (We are open to considering consultants for this role, depending on demonstrated success in STEM education professional development.)


Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree or higher; teaching credential or advanced degree preferred

● Minimum 5 years demonstrated success and experience in developing and delivering elementary science teaching professional development; demonstrated understanding of NGSS and California standards

● Clear, compelling, concise writing style; effective spoken communication

● Demonstrated proficiency with Google suite tools, Salesforce, basic graphics

● Experience in producing clear professional development materials (printed and digital)

● Ability to work independently, collaborate as appropriate, and meet due dates and deliverables


Responsibilities In collaboration with organization leadership team:

a. Design and implement science education professional development programs and sessions, tailored to meet needs of specific cohorts of attendees

b. Provide engagement and stewardship to support success of PD attendees, before, during and after workshop sessions

c. Facilitate professional learning collaborations

d. Present at regional/state/national conferences as needed

e. Coordinate with other team members regarding interconnections between our other teacher service and science education outreach programs.

f. Maintain accurate information and records in Salesforce.
