Eastward Partners has partnered with a large non-profit in Union County, New Jersey to identify a senior leader in human resources.


Primary Job Duties

The Senior Director of Human Resources will develop, oversee, and ensure the accountability and compliance of the department and the other supporting activities assigned by the Associate Executive Director of Human Resources.


  1. Manage a team of 3 or 4 employees including a Director of HRIS, a Director of Training and Compliance, and a Director of Investigations.
  2. Lead employee relations activities including DEI trainings and initiatives, investigations involving employee conduct, and disciplinary and termination proceedings.
  3. Ensure compliance with State of New Jersey and Medicaid regulations regarding serving an I/DD population.
  4. Lead a transformation of training and onboarding policies and procedures including an update to historic orientation forms and procedures to ensure a smooth onboarding process for all new employees.
  5. Develop job descriptions for newly created roles and maintain the posting of job descriptions for open roles.
  6. Explain benefits and total rewards to new and current employees including the intricacies of medical, dental, and vision insurance as well as retirement benefits to ensure all employees are aware of the benefits available to them and any changes to the administration of said benefits.
  7. Ensure compliance with all federal, state and city laws and regulations related to employment practices.


Qualifications and success attributes

The successful candidate for this position is a highly competent, self-reliant, and results-oriented professional with significant not-for-profit management experience and excellent people management, creative problem solving, written and verbal communications skills. This individual must be capable of handling complex and multiple organizational functions, projects, issues and challenges in a fast-paced environment, maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards. A commitment to working alongside staff in a hands-on manner rather than mere delegation is of the utmost importance.


Required experience and qualifications include:

  • Minimum educational attainment of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • At least eight to ten years of experience working in human resources in the not-for-profit sector and at least three to five years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience working with a not-for-profit organization of a similar scale with at least 100 employees.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws, policies, and regulation (particularly as it relates to Human Resources)
