Georgia-Pacific is hiring for a Sr. Electrical Engineer that supports the Power and Drives team within the Projects and Engineering Group. This role provides electrical engineering leadership and support for large capital projects, typically five million or larger in spend. As a member of the Power & Drives Team, you will support capital projects across the country. Additionally, you will collaborate with our GP operational support partners to deliver digital expectations for long-term remote support capabilities. This is an excellent opportunity to challenge your technical expertise, organizational skills, and leadership to create long term value for our operations partners.

This role is home based but can work out of a facility if preferred.

Our Team

The Projects and Engineering team consists of over 100 individuals across the United States working with our Consumer Products, Building Products and Packaging & Cellulose mills. The team focus is on capital project execution as well as run-ability of current assets. The Power and Drives Team provides technical troubleshooting and capital project support for the power systems and drive systems within our facilities.

What You Will Do

  • Provide leadership for external/internal engineering resources to drive project proposals, completion, and engineering standards
  • Lead a program approach to address like needs (obsolete power and frequency drive systems) across GP manufacturing sites
  • Partner with project managers to determine scope of work, deliverables and project execution strategies
  • Responsible for the execution of a disciplined project work process
  • Review project estimates, and schedules for the electrical portions of the project
  • Review conceptual and detailed engineering and designs completed by partner engineering firms
  • Review/verify specifications and bid packages for electrical equipment and installation services
  • Identify project risks and assist in mitigating impacts to the project
  • Field support on major milestones in engineering, construction, startup, and commissioning
  • Evaluate engineering firm’s performance against objectives and provide feedback to promote corrective action and continuous improvement


Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Electrical Engineering discipline OR in lieu of a degree, electrical engineering experience troubleshooting power or drive systems
  • Experience working with power or drive systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with electrical safety and applying electrical safety risk reduction standards and designs
  • Experience referencing and applying National Electrical Code
  • Able to travel up to 50% on average
  • Experience leading complex electrical projects


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience in power system modeling and protective relaying
  • Experience specifying, installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting alternating/direct-current (AC/DC) coordinated variable frequency/speed drive systems
  • Experience in the paper industry
  • Experience in the oil/gas industry
  • Experience and knowledge of Arc Flash, NFPA 70E and power systems modeling software
  • Maintenance reliability experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License


For this role, we anticipate paying $125k - $160k per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form
