The Design Systems team is responsible for creating the visual-and-interactive system that product teams rely on to build beautiful, usable, digital user experiences in a scalable and repeatable way. Our design system consists of the components, patterns, guidelines, and toolkits that enable designers and engineers to quickly-and-efficiently build products for the millions of Etsy buyers and sellers from across the world.
About The Role
We are looking for a highly-skilled motion designer to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will define and implement Etsy's motion design language with a strategic focus on usability, interactivity, and delight to reinforce Etsy's brand. Your work will be foundational in creating a comprehensive motion design system that drives usability and visual consistency for motion, micro-interactions, transitions, and animations across web and native platforms, setting a high standard for motion design at Etsy.
Your expertise will guide the development of motion design principles, and play a key role in shaping the visual identity of our products through strategic and innovative motion design initiatives.
Day to day, it looks like:
Building a library of animations, motion tokens and detailed documentation to guide product designers to create their own experiences
Driving the application of Etsy’s design system through animation, motion design and prototyping
Applying your talent for animation to simplify complex interactions and solve challenging design problems
Providing hands-on support and guidance to product designers implementing motion design into their projects
Testing prototypes and hypotheses with users to collect feedback
Presenting your work to peers and leadership, async and in-person
Taking part in weekly design critiques, workshops, all hands and squad meetings
Thinking and writing about your process and documenting your decisions
Requirements
Must-Haves
6+ years of motion design experience in product design
Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, including designers, engineers, product managers and researchers
Fluency in motion software (After Effects, Principle)
Experience with Figma design software
Demonstrated experience working across web and native (Android and iOS) platforms
Strong understanding of accessibility principles and how to apply them to motion design
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with Origami Studio or other prototyping tools
Illustration skills for visualizing storyboards and strategy
Experience in developing guidelines that can be applied across a range of touchpoints
Experience working with and contributing to design systems
