Position Overview

The Style Editor will be responsible for assisting in the creation of compelling editorial content that drives conversation and engagements for the Style vertical across Skratch platforms, including all of Skratch’s social media platforms and its editorial site launching late 2024. Skratch is a media publisher that sits at the intersection of golf and culture, using authentic storytelling and a high standard of quality to highlight aspects of the game that golf obsessives get out of bed for.

The Style Editor will report directly to the Editor in Chief of Skratch and work closely alongside the Deputy Editor to manage the vertical’s output and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging written editorial and video content from concept to completion for collaborative posting on Skratch and editor’s own platforms for collaborative promotion.
  • Work with Deputy Editor and Editor in Chief to brainstorm, produce, and execute recurring series for the Style vertical that drive interest in the Skratch brand, affiliate revenue, website traffic, and on-platform engagements.
  • Help develop Skratch’s coverage strategy in the style category while both contributing, assigning, and editing content across the verticals.
  • Have the ability to self-start, manage and execute each concept, including budgeting, pre-production, production and post-production of editorial content while liaising with in-house creative resources.
  • Work with the rest of the editorial team to prepare content ahead of tentpole e-commerce and shopping seasons to complete collaborative gift and shopping guides to drive e-commerce revenue and site engagement.
  • Manage a stable of contributors with possibility of direct reports as the section experiences growth.
  • Curate, program and produce a weekly newsletter, working with the editorial team to execute a strategy that inspires open rate, engagement, traffic, and loyalty.
  • Frequent travel to tournaments and off-course shoots to produce content and report on golf destinations.
  • Collaborate with other editors, Skratch talent, taking part in regular brainstorms and pitch sessions.
  • Help develop sales concepts and ideas.
  • Adhere to Skratch brand standards, strategic initiatives and established voice across platforms.
  • Utilize available data and analytics to make or adjust programming and content decisions.
  • Execute content on behalf of marketing and/or sales initiatives on a timely basis.
  • Manage relationships with heads of state at brands and manufacturers Skratch covers to secure exclusives, samples, press opportunities, and potential branded/sales relationships.
  • Non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Journalism, Media or Communications a plus.
  • 5+ years professional experience in related field.
  • Background in golf preferred; interest in golf required.
  • Self-starter with enthusiasm for innovative ideas and thinking outside the box.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines under pressure in a team environment.
  • Strong writing and editing skills including grammar, style and spelling.
  • Commitment to high-quality work product that meet brand and fan standards.
  • Understanding of the current digital and social media landscape, including creating content for Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other platforms, best practices, success metrics and emerging platforms.
  • Design, photo and video editing skills a plus.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft programs.
  • Prior experience operating and maintaining professional digital video and audio equipment, and photography is a plus.
