Substation Engineer - Remote Position

SELECT Power Systems is seeking a talented and highly motivated experienced Substation Engineer/Desinger to join our Power Division team. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a great variety of challenging projects with several clients. This opportunity is opened to remote / virtual talented candidates based anywhere within the United States. The qualified candidate must be able to adapt quickly and to work independently through a project from conceptual / preliminary design to the construction and final project phases. Job Description

As the Substation design engineer/designer you will provide Protection and Control or Physical design engineering services for transmission and distribution substations. You will collaborate and support other internal and external teams to successfully complete and deliver high quality products, on time and within budget to our valuable clients. This position requires to be focused on safety, quality, and in our clients. In addition, constant learning and application of industry standards and processes will be necessary.

This position will report to SELECT’s Power Division’s Substation Design Manager.

Job Responsibilities

As an experienced Relay Protection and Control or Physical design engineer, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to be responsible for:

Protection & Control

• Developing complete design packages consisting of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, relay & communications/SCADA panel layouts, AC & DC Schematics / elementaries, wiring diagrams, bill of materials, cable schedules and equipment specifications
• Collaborating and providing technical direction to clients, peer engineers, designers, drafters, and less experienced team members
• Performing quality checks / reviews of engineering packages
• Assisting with scopes, estimates, schedules and proposals as necessary
• Participating in meetings with clients
• Performing AC / DC, and voltage drop calculations
• Using and understanding NEC, NESC, IEEE/ANSI, NEMA and client specific standards
  
  

Physical Design

• Electrical or Civil/StructuralEngineering bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited program
• Development of substation design drawings which may include:
• General Arrangements & Layouts
• Elevations & Section Details
• Below Grade Conduit Plans & Schedules
• Lightning Protection Plans/Analysis
• Ground Grid Design & Grounding Details
• Bill of Materials (BOM)
• Control Building Layouts & Equipment
• Develop bid documents and material specifications
• Review vendor submittals and provide analysis/feedback
• Efficiently & effectively communicate design requirements and collaborate with other disciplines of the company including structural, civil, survey, land development, etc. on a regular basis
• Generate reports for clients
  
  

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
• Engineer-in-Training Certificate or Professional Engineering license preferred
• Minimum two(2) years Protection &Controlor Physical design engineering experience is required
• Previous engineering consulting firm or utility experience is preferred
• Construction support experience is a plus
• Experience with AUTOCAD Electrical, ASPEN, SKM, Microstation, Bluebeam, and 3D modeling delivery are preferred
