Job Summary

We are seeking a self-motivated Sustainability Consultant passionate about holistic sustainability, innovation, and high-impact work to positively impact the planet and people. We specialize in creating high performing and highly sustainable buildings and communities, working with ambitious clients around the globe. This position would be to support various projects at scale, both in the US, as well as around the world.

This opportunity is primarily remote but with the goal to connect in-person with our Team in one of the following locations: Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, Austin, Atlanta or New York.

We are looking for a Sustainability Consultant to join our team and work closely with our clients to achieve their sustainability goals across a variety of projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sustainability principles and practices in real estate (covering carbon, energy, water, waste/circularity, ecology, water, materials, and health), as well as experience leading third-party certifications (LEED, LBC, WELL, Fitwel, and others), and in Whole Building LCA and embodied carbon assessments.

The role requires close collaboration with our dynamic regional Sustainability Team, as well as internal and external partners and clients. Therefore, we are looking for someone who can effectively work on a multi-disciplinary team and alongside others to meet desired goals.

The Role:

  • Receive and execute instructions from the Team Leader and be responsible and accountable for completing the assigned projects or tasks with required level of quality, on schedule and on budget with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Provide sustainability consulting support to our clients, including administering and coordinating certification processes for the latest sustainable building rating systems – LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel and others.
  • Develop sustainability recommendations and reports for clients at various stages of a project or across a portfolio.
  • Perform Life Cycle Assessments and collaborate with design teams to support sustainable design decisions.
  • Coordinate information between architects, building owners, contractors and other consultants throughout design and construction phases.
  • Write sustainability specifications, design standards, and healthy materials performance requirements in close collaboration with design teams.
  • Support the implementation, development and tracking of sustainability standards, initiatives and data.
  • Conduct research and analysis on complex sustainability topics ranging from carbon, energy, water, waste/circularity, ecology, health, biophilic design, materials, community, and equity.
  • Manage data collection, quality and reporting to track progress towards set sustainability goals while identifying and resolving issues with team members along the way.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on sustainability strategies and reporting.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to junior staff with lower levels of responsibility or experience

Skills and Qualifications:

  • University degree in Architecture, Building or Environmental engineering or Environmental Sciences, or related equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of consulting experience in administering LEED certification services (or other sustainability and wellness certifications) and providing sustainability consulting.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (WELL AP, Fitwel Ambassador, LFA, and other accreditations are a plus).
  • Strong understanding of sustainability principles, technologies, and practices.
  • Experience leading Whole Building Life Cycle Assessments (WBLCA) and detailed embodied carbon analyses (MEPR embodied carbon expertise is a plus).
  • Knowledgeable in using the latest version of Building Codes, ASHRAE Standards and sustainability reference standards.
  • Highly organized, reliable, and effective team member, able to work easily with others, collaborate, and effectively delegate.
  • Passionate about sustainability issues and strong desire to drive high-impact work.
  • Openness to learn and expand skills as well as overall sustainability knowledge.
  • Advanced Interpersonal skills with clients and staff; meeting facilitation skills and experience is highly desired.
  • Experience working on aviation and transportation projects a plus.
  • Excellent communicator who can effectively communicate technical topics to a wide range of audiences.
