Sustainability Manager

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading the development, implementation and execution of Seventh Generation’s sustainability plan. Within this role, the two major priorities are to reduce the Company’s carbon footprint and eliminate petrochemical plastic from our packaging. The Sustainability Manager will spearhead the advancement of our existing climate initiatives, while championing a new focus area of eliminating petro-based virgin plastic and total plastic packaging. In addition, this position will manage oversight of product and packaging compliance with Seventh Generation’s sustainability and human health standards and begin the targeted integration of nature into company climate programs.

The Sustainability Manager will work with a cross-functional team from R&D, Procurement, Supply Chain and Marketing to develop and execute category specific sustainability initiatives in our annual operating plan and ensure product innovations and renovations adhere to sustainability standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development:
  • Lead the refinement and expansion of existing climate initiatives to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices.
  • Co-develop a new strategic roadmap for 2030 plastic goals.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify opportunities for synergies between climate and plastic and nature efforts, maximizing impact and efficiency.
  • Daily Operations Management:
  • Oversee the day-to-day execution of sustainability programs, including but not limited to green power program, regenerative agriculture and sustainable sourcing.
  • Actively participate in category Squads, monitoring progress and performance of sustainability projects, identifying and implementing corrective actions as needed to achieve goals.
  • Oversee standards maintenance and compliance process
  • Stakeholder Advocacy & Engagement:
    • Collaborate with industry associations, NGOs, and government agencies to support initiatives aimed at decarbonizing our economy, reducing plastic pollution and promoting circular economy.
  • Foster strong relationships with Customers to commercialize our impact.
  • Manage sustainability consultants to deliver efficacious programs.
  • Performance Tracking and Reporting:
  • Develop metrics, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms to monitor the effectiveness and impact of climate, nature and plastic sustainability initiatives.
  • Prepare annual Sustainability report and quarterly progress updates for Leadership Team, category Squads, Social Mission Board and other stakeholders, highlighting successes and identifying areas for improvement.
Qualifications

Demonstrated commitment to the values embodied by Seventh Generation’s mission and Corporate Consciousness team including social equity and climate justice

At least 8 years or more of professional experience working to improve the environmental footprint of a business or other institution

A bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and/or practical experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainable Agriculture, or related discipline providing technical expertise in sustainability.

A strong understanding of environmental issues, sustainability principles, and relevant regulations and standards, including SBTi, GHG Protocol, and GRI is essential.

Knowledge of topics such as climate change, circular economy, environmental health, renewable energy, and sustainable business practices mandatory.

Familiarity with RECs, carbon accounting and Life Cycle Assessment tools.

Strong ability to analyze data and assess the environmental impact of various business activities.

Proven leadership skills as an influencer within an organization through collaboration rather than the exercise of line authority

Team leadership experience, including management of consultants

Pay: The pay range for this position is $98,300 to $147,500. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
