Job Title: Synthetic Chemist - Flow Battery Development

Location: GridStar® Flow Development Facility, Andover, MA, 01810

Job Description: The Synthetic Chemist will work closely with PhD chemists and engineers to develop improved, scalable synthetic routes and processes for redox-active inorganic coordination compounds used in a novel flow battery technology. This 3- to 6-month position involves executing chemical reactions, analyzing data, and optimizing processes to enhance electrolyte performance.

Job Duties

• Independently execute chemical reactions in the lab, including organic and inorganic chemistry and air-free synthesis, on gram-to-kilogram scale.
• Utilize analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, NMR, UV-vis, and cyclic voltammetry to analyze reaction products and guide process optimization.
• Support general lab upkeep and management, ensuring a safe and organized work environment.
• Communicate results effectively to colleagues and management through written reports, presentations, and technology transfer packages.
  
  

Required Basic Qualifications

• PhD in a field of chemistry.
• Expertise in organic and organometallic chemical synthesis.
• Experience using analytical data to guide and optimize chemical processes.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  
  

Desired Skills

• Familiarity with analytical and electrochemical characterization techniques, including HPLC, LC-MS, NMR, UV-vis, and cyclic voltammetry.
• Experience with kinetic monitoring experiments and pilot-scale equipment.
  
  

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in chemistry with significant laboratory experience in chemical synthesis.
