Summary

Install config design

The System Administrator III serves as an expert for IT and is responsible for effective technical design, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure in order to provide complex and comprehensive solutions for the enterprise. They will ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to the organization’s mission and values.

Research and Development

The System Administrator III participates in technical research, development, and engineering best practices to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.

Evaluate and recommend

The System Administrator III will evaluate and recommend new technologies to both improve productivity and expand current organizational capabilities. They are also responsible for clarifying requirements, designing solutions, providing trade off analysis, and initial budget estimates for project work.

Projects

The System Administrator III will identify methods, solutions, and provide an IT leadership role in projects. They will also coordinate technical work efforts of assigned IT resources.

Systems List

The System Administrator III is accountable for the following systems: Linux and Windows operating systems, VMware vSphere and Horizon View, Microsoft Active Directory and related infrastructure, Cisco networking equipment, and Data Center management. Responsibilities on these systems include engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance, and research and development to ensure continual innovation.

Policies and procedures

The System Administrator III participates in the planning, writing, and implementation of policies and procedures, for both systems and the organization as a whole, that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Works Unsupervised

The System Administrator III will develop and maintain documentation pertaining to the current enterprise. They must possess effective communication skills in order to relate risks, business values, and impacts of technology to both technical and non-technical employees. Additionally, they will provide level 3 support for all of IT, including desktop support and helpdesk areas, as well as coaching and mentoring to junior team members.

Responsibilities

Provide networking, system support, and maintenance for both hardware and software on both clients and servers.

Have a strong technical knowledge of: Enterprise Operating Systems; Windows infrastructure; Virtual platforms; Local Area Network administration; Office 365 Management including Exchange Online, Compliance, and Security; SAN and NAS storage management.

Maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature, and user abuse by implementing industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.

Manage security tools such as firewalls, web filters, AV, and SLAM.

Responsible for evaluating, installing, configuring, testing, updating, administrating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting of all hardware, software, networking, virtual and physical servers, enterprise operating systems, and technology tools.

Provide general system administrator tasks (manage end user accounts, permissions and access rights, file and print servers, etc…)

Backup and archiving management of all corporate servers. Develop procedures, programs, and documentation for backup and restoration of enterprise data.

Develop and maintain documentation about the current enterprise setup, work and requests, asset and system inventory, security, and records of service.

Assist IT Manager with contract maintenance and negotiation, licensing, development of policies and procedures, and departmental budgeting.

Manage Data Center and server room environments including physical machines, server racks, cable management, documentation, labeling, and KVM management.

Guide or provide work direction to technical staff, contract staff, volunteers, and/or student employees.

Manage, maintain, and build vendor, outsourcer, and contractor relationships.

Train and mentor junior IT staff members.

Provide after-hours support for infrastructure related emergencies as well occasional weekend maintenance

Qualifications And Skills

Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related area) preferred. Work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

5 years of experience as a System Administrator; managing systems, software, and support; with increasing responsibility.

Advanced professional certifications such as Microsoft MCSA, Cisco CCNA, Linux RHCSA, or VMware VCA are preferred.

Extensive experience with virtual platforms, LAN/WAN networks, SAN and NAS storage systems, Microsoft and Linux operating systems, Microsoft domain infrastructure, and data backups/recovery.

Knowledge of security best practices and system vulnerabilities. Experience managing enterprise level AV, web and email filtering, and monitoring systems.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing, are required for supporting employees with a varying range of computer competencies.

Hands on experience, with the ability to complete tasks independently, in the areas of project management, documentation, and troubleshooting.

Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws such as HIPAA. Professionalism with administration of confidential information is required.

Prior Healthcare Experience Preferred.

Specific experience with the following systems is highly desired:

Microsoft Server OS: 2012r2 – 2022

Microsoft Client OS: Windows 10 and 11

Linux OS: RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Debian

Microsoft Active Directory and related infrastructure

VMware vSphere, Horizon View, and Veeam

Office 365 Management and Exchange Online

Large Network and System Environment (1,000+ end devices)

Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and related software (ISE, Sourcefire, CMX, and Prime)

Scripting

Sophos A/V

EMC and Nimble storage systems
