The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas at Austin is one of the leading supercomputing centers in the world, supporting advances in computational research by thousands of researchers and students. TACC staff help researchers and educators use advanced computing, visualization, and storage technologies effectively, and conduct research and development to make these technologies more powerful, more reliable, and easier to use. TACC staff also educate and train the next generation of researchers, empowering them to make discoveries that advance knowledge and change the world.
The Large Scale Systems group at Texas Advanced Computing Center invites a Systems Administrator who can provide Linux systems administration and hardware support for HPC systems. The position will require interaction in a multi-vendor, high performance computing environment that includes Petascale HPC and storage systems and high-speed networking infrastructure.

Purpose
This position will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing Linux cluster hardware components in addition to deploying new systems and subsystems.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair Linux cluster hardware components
- Standard datacenter server components including all air-cooled components
- Direct-Liquid-Cooling (DLC) infrastructure components including cold-plates and coolant distribution units (CDU)s
- Coolant-Oil-Immersion-Cooling (COIC) subsystem components including CDUs
- Petabyte-scale storage hardware components
- Deployment and management of high-speed networking fabrics
- Optimizing rack positioning and internal layout to ensure power/thermal efficiency
- Maintain and administer Linux based HPC clusters with multiple architectures
- Maintain accurate change documentation for all repairs and system changes
- Automate routine tasks when applicable
- 2+ years' experience administering digital services such as HPC services, websites, internet-centric infrastructure, cloud services, or other digital services that demonstrate uptime and reliability of infrastructure principles.
- Experience in Linux systems administration
- Experience with server hardware and physical repairs of high-density HPC systems
- Experience with physical deployments including cabling, power distribution, and advanced datacenter cooling technologies (DLC and immersion cooling)
- Ability and desire to learn new concepts and software tools
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Experience in Linux networking and managing the OSI layers in Linux
- Experience in physical installation of large-scale clusters
- Familiarity with system software package management, concepts such as RAID, hardware diagnostics, IPMI, RACADM, backups, high-availability, and failure-recovery procedures
- Experience configuring and deploying Linux clusters of any size including configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, LosF
- Basic knowledge with one or more scripting languages, (Python, Perl, Bash)
- Basic knowledge of monitoring software such as Nagios or Zabbix
