Position Summary
The Position of Tax Accountant I is responsible for ensuring GreatAmerica is compliant with federal, state, and local laws pertaining to sales/use, property, and/or income/franchise taxes, and their equivalents. This individual should proactively look for areas where taxes can and do impact the core business processes of GreatAmerica and look for opportunities to improve processes in those areas.
Primary Responsibilities
- Gather, compile, and analyze information to support accurate tax reporting
- Complete straightforward spreadsheets and assist with completion of complex spreadsheets and documentation for compliance, advisory projects, and audits by federal, state, provincial, and local taxing authorities
- Understand the use of appropriate general ledger tax accounts and reconcile assigned tax related accounts
- Research tax laws to ensure compliance in all areas of tax
- Respond to internal and external customer requests related to tax questions and interpretations effectively and timely
- Resolve straightforward tax technical issues without assistance and complex technical issues with assistance
- Communicate directly and professionally with taxing jurisdictions regarding basic and complex tax matter
- Complete various sales and/or property tax tasks with assistance related to onboarding and administration of third-party portfolio servicing clients
- Assist with analysis, quantification, and documentation of tax positions
- Compile and reconcile billing information related to taxes paid and service performed for identified lessors
- Assist with preparation of accurate and timely tax returns in the US and Canada
- Accurately pay all applicable taxes within established timelines
- Proactively participate in strategic projects as assigned
- Provide outstanding GreatAmerica Experience for external as well as internal customers

- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting or Finance
- Zero to two years’ experience in tax and/or accounting related fields preferred
- Experience with: Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Excel Skills)
- Research software (RIA, CCH) preferred
- Tax preparation software (Sales, PPTX, Income tax) preferred
