Tax Associate

Job Summary

The Tax Associate is responsible for applying taxation principles and procedures to analyze information, prepare accurate and timely tax returns, tax payment estimates, and projections while maintaining appropriate legal and standard control procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Occasional training and mentoring may be required to assist Interns, Assistants, or new employees.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Prepare or assist in preparing simple to complex tax returns including those for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, estates, and related reports.
  • Gather, compile, categorize, prepare, analyze and verify documentation in order to accurately prepare necessary tax forms.
  • Review tax law and/or consult with Supervisor in order to determine procedures for atypical situations.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical and taxation law knowledge.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Communicate effectively with clients when appropriate in a clear and logical way.
  • Perform all applicable duties in accordance with the practice standards set forth in Treasury Regulation “Circular 230.”
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager/Partners.

  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. (Demonstrated extensive taxation experience may be substituted for degree requirement)
  • Previous experience in tax preparation is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Typical office environment and may include extended periods of sitting and repetitive work.
  • Employee is required to talk and hear and use their hands and fingers to manipulate keys on a keyboard.
  • Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or lift 15 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Hours And Overtime

  • Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.
  • This job is a salaried position and, due to the nature of the business and position, may require different/additional hours to accomplish the objectives.
  • Extended hours are required during tax season (January through April 15th ) and often are necessary at times between August and October and various other times throughout the year depending upon workload and deadlines.

Travel Requirements

  • Out-of-town travel is not normally required for this position.
  • All efforts will be made to give as much advance notice as possible for required travel.
  • Employee must have reliable transportation, an active driver’s license, and valid automobile insurance.
