The Teacher Development Coach helps provide novice teachers with coaching and professional mentorship to improve student outcomes. The Teacher Development Coach provides specialized coaching support using the Jim Knight Coaching Model. They form a multi-year-long trusting and reflective professional partnership with a new teacher. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Coach and assist with lesson planning, classroom management, instructional strategies, analysis of student work and assessment data, curriculum development, and all aspects of the novice teacher experience
Documents coaching support using specific Jim Knight Coaching Model formative assessment tools and logs
Conducts regular classroom observations and provides prompt data-based feedback with each observation
Engages in coaching conversations to improve novice teachers’ reflective practices and effectiveness as a teacher
Participates in the facilitation of ongoing professional development activities in the Teacher and Leader Pathways Department
Coordinates and attends monthly professional seminars for novice teachers
Participates in a program evaluation process by providing and analyzing data related to student outcomes, teacher improvement, teacher retention, and teacher satisfaction
Assists in recruiting novice teacher candidates for the Talent Office
Works with Teacher and Leader Pathways specialist, Coordinator of Teacher Support and Retention, and Coordinator of Long-term Substitute Teacher Support to develop and maintain an asynchronous novice teacher and long-term substitute professional development website and support system
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Must possess a valid Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in a subject area with a minimum of five years of recent teaching experience
Ability to participate in required training to acquire knowledge and skills to be an effective mentor
Exemplary classroom practice and leadership capacity with experience in Mentoring/Coaching pre-service or novice teachers along with credibility among teachers and administrators
Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional growth and learning
Must have the ability to motivate and engage teachers for successful learning outcomes
Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
Experience and knowledge of teacher licensure requirements established by the Virginia Department of Education
Experience with Learning Management systems such as Canvas and Kickup
Experience and demonstrated competence with data input and analysis
Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with teachers, specialists, school administration and staff, central office staff, and members of the community
Excellent communication (verbal, written, and presentation) skills; ability to compose and present reports and effective, visually appealing presentations using multimedia technology
Models professionalism, engages in self-led continuous improvement, seeks out feedback, and provides constructive feedback to colleagues
Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
