Job Title: Technical Writer

Loc: Remote

Exp: 4+ Yrs

Job Description

Under limited Supervision, the Technical Writer will create and revise technical documents to support the creation of a modernized data estate of a state agency.

  • Products to be created include technical manuals for the collection and management of agency data assets
  • The creation of a knowledge repository for all related applications and policies
  • A data visualization style for agency staff
  • User guides for newly released applications and other related products

Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Write and edit technical documents including technical manuals for knowledge repository
  • Write and edit User guides
  • Determine the type of publication that will best serve the project requirements
  • Engage with staff to ensure staff input
  • Assess audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation are intended
  • Coordinate writing process and set timelines and guidelines
  • Create or work with graphic designers to create diagrams, charts and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to work independently
  • Ability to edit and proofread work of colleagues
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Education And Expertise

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Technical Writing or another related field is required
  • Three years of related experience required

Required/Desired Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication: Required 3 years
  • Write and edit technical documents including reference manuals and product manuals: Required 3 years
  • Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text: Required 3 years
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software: Required 3 years
  • Agile project management: Nice to have
