Job Title: Work-Based Learning & Career Readiness Liaison

Supervisor: Career Learning Coordinator

Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide MSD schools with work-based learning

opportunities for high school students through partnerships with community businesses and nonprofit organizations (60% Perkins-funded) and to provide support services for career readiness for Innovation Academy and Innovation Online students (40% HSS-funded). This position requires facilitating conversations with businesses, industry partners for CTE programs, nonprofit organizations, and local higher education representatives, as well as coordinating services to reduce barriers for students participating in work-based learning experiences off campus.

This position will sometimes require a flexible daily and/or weekly schedule with some evening and weekend hours.

This is a grant-funded position with a sunset date of June 30, 2025.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Understand and apply rules and regulations regarding child labor, including assisting potential sites with completion of exception paperwork for learning experiences
  • Lead development of long-term work-based learning partnerships/programs with key employers in the Rogue Valley
  • Liaison between Medford School District and industry partners, including government and

nonprofit organizations, to develop work-based learning opportunities

  • Participate in workforce development sector meetings and facilitate communication of workforce needs to CTE instructors
  • Train staff as appropriate in work-based learning placement and supervision
  • Properly record and maintain work-based learning experiences and student participation in

experiences

  • Analyze grade and attendance data of students participating in work-based learning

experiences

  • Assist students at Innovation Academy and Innovation Online with applications for and completion of work-based learning experiences
  • Assist students from focal populations with reduction of barriers to participate in work-based learning including assisting with bus passes, problem solving schedules, provision of

work-appropriate clothing, etc.

  • Connect with special education case managers regarding accommodations and assist students with requesting accommodations in work-based learning experiences if needed
  • Mediate situations in which students are not fulfilling expectations of work-based learning

sites

  • Refer to Maslow programs and services or other resources, as appropriate
  • Upskill members of CTE program of study advisory boards for provision of additional work-based learning opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Education And/or Experience

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or one to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of workforce development and/or career and technical education strongly preferred.

Interpersonal Skills

Ability to interact appropriately with students, staff, administrators,

community members, state/federal/local agencies, members of the community, and students. Focuses on solving conflict resolution and rational judgment while maintaining confidentiality. Ability to thrive while working independently most of the time. Contributes to building a positive team

environment.

Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently in English verbally and in writing. Preference may be given to applicants fluent in English and Spanish. Ability to respond to common inquiries or

complaints from students, parents, or community partners. Ability to collect, organize, interpret data and generate reports and correspondence in easy-to-understand formats appropriate for the audience. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and respond to common inquiries from regulatory agencies and staff.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to process data from multiple sources, calculate percentages and ratios, create figures, graphs, projected trend data, and other representations of numerical data.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to learn multi-step processes and follow procedures. Self-starter with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently. Flexibility; able to shift between projects & priorities easily.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong computer skills, be comfortable using databases and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and efficiently use Gmail, Google Drive, etc. Ability to quickly learn new software is necessary.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District, including a valid Oregon driver's license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, the ability to adjust focus, depth perception, and peripheral vision. Speaking clearly enough to be able to be understood by others.

Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person. Emotional stability to work

effectively under pressure and control all aspects of the job.
