T ransportation Engineer II:
Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer II, III:
- Acts in an advisory capacity and answers technical questions regarding highway capacity analysis, traffic simulation and safety modeling and analysis and intersection/interchange analysis/evaluation to support project development.
- Assists in the development, publishing, and delivery of technical training and guidance to project personnel.
- Coordinates on design schematics, assists with traffic and safety studies, and reviews in-house and consultant-developed traffic simulation, safety analyses, and intersection/interchange projects.
- Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.
- Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, and analyses, and to provide technical support.
- Performs and reviews conceptual design, capacity analyses, traffic simulations, and safety analyses associated with Interstate Access Justification Reports,
- Design Exceptions, alternative analysis, and other processes in support of preliminary and final design.
- Provides traffic engineering support for districts in project development.
- Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing transportation projects.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Negotiates fees and budgets, develops and negotiates scopes of work, negotiates contract work schedules, monitors consultants' progress and work quality, checks invoices and associated documents, prepares supplemental agreements, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, as the consultant project manager.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
