Work from the MAG office required a minimum of 3 days per week

The Position

The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is seeking a team-oriented professional to join the Transportation Planning Team. MAG was founded in the spirit of cooperation and with a belief that by uniting its 32 member cities, towns, Native nations, and counties, we can plan and deliver an efficient long-range transportation system that meets the growing region’s needs.

This position will report directly to the Transportation Planning Manager and play a critical role in addressing some of this region’s greatest mobility challenges. Primary duties will include managing regional and subregional transportation studies, leading innovative multimodal research and analysis efforts, and communicating the findings of complex analyses to a variety of audiences. In addition, developing relationships with a range of private and public sector stakeholders in the planning process will be a fundamental aspect of this role.

Other Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Analyzing a wide variety of data sources and policy documents to prepare reports, support decision-making, and develop technical materials.
  • Conducting research and analysis independently or with a team.
  • Providing technical and administrative support to ongoing planning work.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with member agencies and stakeholders.
  • Providing support to MAG committees and workgroups.
  • Project procurement and contract management and budget administration.
  • Coordination or collaboration with other MAG internal departments.
  • Serving as a technical liaison to partner agency’s studies.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a broad range of multimodal planning experience and knowledge, with specific experience in managing intricate and highly visible projects. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to think critically and analytically to bring together complex tasks into a set of cohesive deliverables that will inform policies and strategies and help build consensus. The candidate should have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills; experience presenting to and working with a variety of audiences (e.g., public, technical, stakeholder, elected) is preferred. Productive relationships with our member agency representatives, built upon strong customer services skills and responsiveness, are vital to success in this position. Candidates should be detail oriented, highly motivated, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, both independently and within a team.

High proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, required. Familiarity with geographic information systems (i.e., ESRI, QGIS), preferred. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, TransCAD or equivalent demand modeling software, and analysis of modelling results, a plus.

Experience And Education

Planner III: Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, urban planning, civil engineering, or related field is required, more than three (3) years of relevant experience in transportation planning or engineering; Master’s degree preferred.

Location

This job is located at the MAG office in downtown Phoenix, Arizona (302 N 1st. Ave, Suite 300, Phoenix, AZ 85003). The agency is currently operating in a hybrid work environment, with a minimum of three days in-office. Relocation assistance may be available.
