Urban Ecology Researcher

KieranTimberlake is currently seeking a full time Urban Ecology Researcher to join our team.

The Urban Ecology Researcher will be a member of KieranTimberlake’s Research Group and will apply their expertise in landscape and ecology to inform how architectural projects can achieve positive outcomes for the natural environment at site, regional, and global scales.

Responsibilities

The Urban Ecology Researcher’s primary activities may encompass the following:

  • Assessing landscape, hydrology, climate, and ecology of project sites
  • Identifying climate risks and resilience strategies
  • Characterizing landscape performance
  • Synthesizing research findings in written and graphic form
  • Collaborating with design teams and civil/landscape consultants
  • Extending research findings into actionable design proposals
  • Educating colleagues on urban ecology topics and methods
  • Presenting applied research to clients and public audiences
  • Expanding knowledge through technical literature review and conference participation
  • Supporting KieranTimberlake’s firmwide sustainability initiatives
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary brainstorming sessions and discussions with peer Research Group members across a wide range of topics, including ecology, environment, human health, post-occupancy evaluation, and many others


Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a curious and self-motivated individual who wants to be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team and can demonstrate:

  • Professional degree in environmental management, ecology, or related field
  • Professional degree or experience in architecture, landscape, or a related design/construction field
  • Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
  • Capacity to review journal papers and summarize findings
  • Strong quantitative reasoning ability
  • Acumen for developing new methods and skills


Candidates should also list relevant coursework or professional experience in any of the following areas:

  • Geospatial modeling (GIS)
  • Field experience
  • Life cycle assessment


The position reports to the Research Director.

Salary is commensurate with professional experience, demonstrated knowledge, and education level. A full benefits package including medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life will be offered. KieranTimberlake offers a hybrid work policy that provides one Work from Home (WFH) day per week.
